Pretty much grew up staying at state parks in Michigan. I think I have been to all of them. Seems like they are located on the best part of each lake in the best areas. Now that we have a 35 ft. TT I cannot get into most of them and they are mostly electric only. My pet peeve is waiting to dump on a Sunday when pulling out. I have waited many hours in line to dump and just will not do it anymore. I stay anywhere I can get full hookups. Not sure about other states but it seems like everyone goes "up north" on the weekends in Michigan and it gets worse all the time. I 75 turns into a parking lot on Sundays.

When traveling we will boondock or go to campground for night if we are done traveling early. If it's after 10 pm we will boondock don't want to disturb CG campers with late arrivals.
This weekend going to be at Cadorous SP, in Hanover PA. Attachment 110523
Don't get this kind of space or frontage at regular campground. Kerr Lake Recreation Area, Henderson NC

Thanks, I think it is something I need to just try. I do boondock when diving at a quarry and on over night stays at rest stops, just never as a whole trip.

Thank you!

I say boondock, but I meant a whole week of not having water and electric. Did the now sewer thing in NJ a few months ago with my tote as well just fine. Water should be fine in the tank. I guess it was the electric really..

Most All PA parks have electricity. Some parks (rustic) don't have full facilities and dependent on size of camper may have limited availability. 30 ft and under your good to go, 25 and under your golden. Over 40ft dependent on park could be few to out of luck.

Our preference is state parks and water district campgrounds. I receive the 50% off from Senior Pass when in Louisiana. Always reserve the full service premium sites with 50A, W, & S. $12 ~ $18 range in La. Ms. water parks run $15 ~ $25 with a senior discount.

Since we started camping in the 80's, we did mostly State Parks with just electric. Now that we are retired and have a 40' 5th Wheel we like full hook-ups and are willing to pay the price. We still do an occasional State Park now & again. Always on the Snowbird Trek to Florida it's the off again, on again KOA's for the one nighters, always clean always accommodating!

State and County($16-$24 per night) most of the time for us. We both still work full time so it's mainly weekends and I like online reservations. KOA is ok but overpriced for the most part. If I plan a trip I call ahead, if possible, to see if my camper will fit. I didn't opt for a generator so I always search for electric at the minimum but I prefer full hook ups. Down the road when we have more time to camp I want to boondock.
We hope to full time when we retire (12+ years) so it's nice to see these threads. Some of the acronyms I don't get COE for one...

We don't typically camp. We Park in RV Parks with complete facilities...beyond FHU if we have a choice...and enjoy the amenities and explore the surrounding areas. Pools, pickleball and cable TV with decent internet and nice people are what we look for. Have not yet boondocked anywhere except at interstate parking lot stops on the way to somewhere. What we really enjoy is seeing the country and the natural wonders of our national parks & monuments...and exploring history in the places it happened.
It may be different than most...but we love it. Have fun!

I think it is army core of engineer park. That what I used it for. May be wrong. There is a thread of acronyms on here somewhere.

No. Anyone. Open to the public.
We have zillions of them. Very good places to camp.

Probably an equal mix of state, county and private parks. Somewhere around 60 days a year of camping

Congratulation to all you adventurous folks!! Would love to hook up, travel and settle whereever the wind blew me. Good times I'm sure. I have a hard time going into the unknown. Wish I wasn't. Any suggestions foe 2-3 day stays in S/E NC??

95% of time state parks and DEC parks all in NY. Split dry and electric. We camp about 50-60 days a year, for years and just had our first full hook up site 2 weeks ago. We've looked at many private parks, but were too cramped for us and the good sites were taken by long term residents. We will never go to a larger RV. Ours fits us and gives us more options for sites.
We like kayaking and fishing and waterfront is almost a must have for us. Our stays range from 4 days to 2 weeks. We never leave on a Sunday as I don't want the dump station crowds.
3 grown kids, 2 with own families (2 grandkids with 1 on the way), all live locally and they often visit when we're camping for a few days. When home our house is the spot everyone comes to for gatherings.
We talk about seeing the country, but haven't gotten past first base. Guess we just don't have enough wanderlust in us, but I enjoy reading about the adventures of the forum members who do.

I am fairly new to this but I am happy with my plan so far. Casino's in winter, resort style in late fall and early spring and state campgrounds Memorial Day to Labor Day. We thought this out and booked everything for the year with this plan in mind. In our area, resort style RV parks are only slightly more expensive than state parks in the off season but horrendously expensive in summer.
After we have our RV legs we plan to venture further and include national parks but I want to make all of my newbie mistakes close to home. I also want to get as many trips in as possible to make setup/teardown and driving/parking second nature so we are doing 3 and 4 day weekends every month this year.

Kinda depends on if you want Fresh or Salt water! Anyway...this state park guide should let you narrow it down to the things you like.
Find a Park | NC State Parks
And here's some other good places like the COE campgrounds...Kerr Lake is great.
