Up, up and away.

First day out and the wind picked up. I heard my wife yell and watched from the other side of the camp ground as the canopy slowly raised up.....and landed on the roof. Hadn't been anything but a mild breeze all day. Didn't appear that any damage was done to the roof. We already have a service call in for Monday. Oh well, could have been worse.

Sounds like you needed some of OC's awning poles / tie downs. But then again, it sounds like you have the manual awning if it flipped onto the roof. If manual, should've unpinned the arms from the camper, staked down and put ratchet straps from roller to ground. We have OC's poles on our power awning, and had it out a couple of weeks ago with 25-30 kt winds, and it did fine. Although I wouldn't want it to endure much more than that.

X eleventy! We finally got to put our OC awning pole system to the test this weekend. Some of the gusts were around 30 MPH and like you, my nerves won't stand much more than that. I'm afraid the entire RV will become a "hover craft".

With those poles, earth anchors and ratchet straps the awnings become as sturdy as a 4 walled structure!

I had straps but had opened it up to clean it. That's what happens when you're OCD.

It happens. Aggravating at the time, something to laugh about later. Never met an RVer that hasn't had at least some kind of mishap. If they haven't, they're rare, or haven't been doing it very long.
