[QUOTE=MendocinoExplorer;1715931]The DW hates our load Honda 6500 (contractor) generator, but approved of the Predator 3500 because of the 58 dB rating. However, she said ‘I can still hear it’. So, put it in the back of our 2016 Ram 2500... ‘I can still hear it’. Geesh!

So, bought a Ridgid 48R-OS contractor box, put the Predator in the box, and put THAT in the back of the truck. Added an exhaust cutout and an extension to the exhaust, and:

With the lid of the box mostly closed (2x4 propping the top open), my dB measurement from 23 feet away ( same distance that they use on the specs ), I get about 50~56 dB (quiet conversation ).

Excellent setup! I'm looking for something similar but not sure that's what I want. But you've given me ideas! Thanks.

The link was actually a pic. Here it is again. I'll include the Amazon link for the Goplus Gas-Powered Inverter Generator Portable Digital 4 Stroke 53cc Single Cylinder CE, GS, CARB & EPA Compliant w/ Wheels (3500W) too. As you'll see they jacked the price.

We have a 283rks. I put my 3500 under the rear bumper ( cable locked) and you really can’t hear the genny at all.

Everyone at deer camp was very interested in it because they know I won’t buy cheap crap and they saw me with a predator. 3 guys bought them the next week.

It even has the same little misfire under ecomode that the Honda have.

Took 10 gallons of gas for 4’days. Went through 3 ( running all night )

Predator, is a clone of Honda, even the parts are interchangeable

I have that exact same genny except mine is branded Sinemate and is yellow and has electric start. Have had it about 5 years and like you, got it at about half price on some kind of fluke sale I stumbled onto.

It's been bulletproof and trust me, I've put it through its paces. It has served me well and if it dies tomorrow I got my money out of it. I bet you do too.

That's great news! Mine has the provisions for electric start, even has a battery tray inside, but didn't come with it which is fine for me. What was important to me is it had to run the A.C. which it does plus the microwave and water heater all at the same time! The other reason I went with it was the size. It had to fit in this space and it does snugly.

200 hours on both without a hitch.
One negative I found is that the wheels that come with it are pretty useless . I found a way to add some that work great using an electric motor arbor as axle extensions and mounted 6 inch no flats. Try to post walk through pics.

Use arbor extension for 1/2 inch shaft. 10 minutes and all you need is crescent wrench and Allen wrench.
Here is example of what I used.

58 db is pretty quiet, but not the quietest on the market. You can compare the other Predator generators for yourself: http://topautotools.com/predator-generator-reviews/

It’s important to keep in mind that some of the dba output readings from the factor can be misleading. Most are measured from 25 feet but don’t tell you if it’s on eco mode while they are taking the reading. Some are taken at a certain distance with a no load while some are taken with a 25% load. The distance is often stated but that’s it.

Continued update

Hey guys. Just figured I would update you guys on the Predator 3500 I bought a couple months back. I run two parallel. I now have 350 hours on both and have not had any problems, only general maintenance. Still run like the day I bought them. I use them 7 days a week. I change the oil regularly along with other maintenance.
When I bought them I replaced the factory Boshe spark plug in one of them with an A/C Delco. The one with the Boshe needed the spark arrestor cleaned yesterday. Don’t know if the spark plug had anything to do with it or not but they recommend cleaning the arrestor anyway. I haven’t messed with the air filter yet.
All in all I am super happy with the purchase. I got the warranty so if something goes wrong I can swap it out as opposed to putting it in the shop for warranty work. No remote start may turn some people off but I don’t need one.
