Velcro on Dinette Cushions?

Our bottom dinette cushions always move out of place after sitting on them. I noticed at the RV show this year that there were some new TTs that had strips of Velcro underneath the cushions. I want to use that on our seats but not sure what kind of Velcro to get. I looked at some the other day at Lowes that came in large strips and they all said not to use it on vinyl or fabric.

That could be because of the adhesive (if they were self stick). You can get velcro for fabric/vinyl (not sure what your cushions are) at fabric stores or Walmart in the fabric section.

You probably need to remove the seat covers and use, or find, a heave duty sewing machine and sew them to the seat material. Chances are the "paste-on" type velcro does not stick to the material the seat bottoms made of!

My Surveyor came with Velcro on the back support cushions, but not on the bottom cushions. It's more like a long, curved couch with 5 or 6 back support cushions, and the Velcro on them really does a good job.

Is the Velcro just stuck on there? Not sewn on, correct?

Could not get Velcro to stay stuck on in our old Catalina TT. Used 1/2 carpet foam underlay instead and it worked well. Yoga mats also work - about 1/4" thick and are fairly inexpensive.

I just put some of that material down that we use in the cupboards to keep the dishes from sliding around. Works like a charm and keeps the cushions in place.

That is what I did. I got an upholsterer to sew the Velcro unto the fabric.

Here is the perfect Velcro....#91227. It is industrial strength and comes in a roll 15ft by 2-inches. It sticks great (over a year) to both the seat cushion and the wood platform. I cut a strip about 2/3 of the length of the seat. Seat does not slide!

I am going to have to give that a try.

For those using velcro, you will want to sew it on to the bottom of the cushion over. If you used the stick on on that part and wanted to wash the cover, it would make quite a mess especially if you were to throw it into the dryer. You really would not need an industrial machine, but be sure to use the correct needle. If you don't sew, an upholster shop would be able to do it. I don't imagine they would charge to much.

I tried the industrial strength velcro at first and it would not stick - period. It was like the plywood (faux wood finish) has a coating of teflon on it. Even tried several types of glue to no avail. The stuff isn't exactly cheap - maybe it's worth testing first to see if anything sticks.

I did two things with velcro to solve my sliding cushion problem.

I noticed that the velcro on the cushions did not line up with the velcro on the bench backs. I put longer strips of velcro on the bench backs to get them to attach to the cushions.

I also had a long roll of velcro that I used many years ago to keep carpet runners from sliding onto of a carpet in a commercial application. I laid down two strips of this velcro on each bench top to add some friction. There was no corresponding velcro on the cushion bottom.

My cushions no longer slide and it was an easy fix.

On my Sunseeker the velcro was sewn onto the cushions but was were worn and did not match up well with the buttons on the wood bench backs. the velcro button and the velcro strip did not touch.

Putting longer strips on the benches solved that problem and the worn velcro seems to hold OK.

For me that stuff was an improvement but the cushions still moved until I switched to the Velcro.
