Hi all...need to spend the nite on the road tomorrow...have allstays wallmart onp app...every walmart in knoxville area that allstays says is ok tells me either they dont have a policy or not ok...but they will add that people do it all the time...is this sop....thx...bo

Should go ask at front desk, some have city codes that don't allow and its only polite to do so anyway. Most won't care but usually know if it is a code violation.

It's always polite to ask, but yes they do. We've stayed amongst the big rigs several times.

I have never heard of any truck stop that charged for overnight stays.

I'd bet that the truckers would put a place that does out of business PDQ.

Over 20 years ago the T/A Truckstop in Nashville, TN. charged for parking and probably still does according to their website. I was stuck without a load for a couple of days and didn't have any choice but to pay up. Never spent another dime at any T/A and that one is still in business. If you're going to park overnight stay away from the T/A's

As a motorcycle rider, we know there is safety in numbers. You are more vulnerable as a solo target in a Walmart lot than in a truck stop/rest area where there are a lot of rigs and people coming and going constantly.

That is just sad.
Have a T/A in Boise across the road from my RV Dealer I shall ask when I take the trailer over there for the fan install.

X2 Mr. Joe.....not OK is not Ok also agree about staying at a truck stop. Safety in numbers. Better yet plan your mileage that you would like to go each day and make reservations at campgrounds along the way.

I have heard truckers state that some truck stops charge them for over night if they do not buy a minimum amount of fuel. One example given is Petro. Too, I agree with those who write "safety in numbers."

You have the Walmart app. Call a few and ask. Save driving around. Not OK is a no go. No policy probably means they don't care. Start calling those first. Good luck. Also, try cracker barrel. The have an app too.

There was a 76 truck stop near chicago that charged 5.00 per 4 hrs of parking. It was on i55 in bolingbrook. They were the last truck stop going north before getting into chicago. Plenty of drivers bitched, but where else were we going to go. Don't know if they are still in business as I haven't been in several yrs. Yes, they had a gate keeper to let you in and out of the lot. If you bought fuel, 100 gallons or more, you could park free.

That's right. I had forgotten about that. Luckily, since I was driving out of the Chicago region, back in my OTR years, I never had to stay there. The only other time I can recall was over in Jersey if I remember right.

Really...unless you enjoy the smell of urine baking on the hot asphalt I wouldn't stay in any truck stop or rest area. I'll gladly spend the $30 or less for a nice campsite with electric. I mean after all...I just put $400 worth of fuel out the exhaust for the day. Another $30 isn't going to break the bank.

I think Cracker Barrel will allow you to stay overnight for free. Not a bad place to eat either.

Just another point-of-view- it's not always about money.

My reasons for using Walmarts has nothing to do with "breaking the bank". I'm usually on a limited time for travel and have to just get there. I'd much rather pull into a Walmart late at night than be one of those folks in a blankety-blank-clacketing-diesel at 9, 10 or 11pm.

I've found the All Stays app isn't 100% accurate. It states that the two nearest stores to my house aren't camper friendly but there is at least a dozen parked in the lot at any given time. We've stayed in the lot of a walmart in the Portland area that the app said wasn't friendly after calling the store (management had no issue). We've become much more fond of casino lots for overnight stays, many only require you to sign up for their player card in order to stay free. The one we frequent the most has night security, a well lit lot, and pet areas as well as a dump station if need be.
