Warranty work

when taking your TT in for service and the dealer may have it for a month or 2 do you normally take all your stuff out. like tv, beding, pots and pans, and empty out your storage compartments.

I have mine scheduled to go in at the end of this month.

All we took out was the bedding ( to wash ) and my tools , portable air compressor and my 50 amp cord. We left all the household stuff in there.

RVs can be broken into VERY Easy! Most Dealers have you sign a paper that they are NOT responsible for (Theft or Damage) to your unit! If there is something inside that you value, take it out before you leave it for the Dealer! TVs,Micro, ect. Youroo!!

It's work but we take everything out. I did have some warranty work done this past sumeer where they promised 48 hour turn around so I let it in. Got the trailer back in 24. But this dealer has a very secure lot and keeps trailers for winter storage so I felt pretty comfortable with them.

I guess it depends on where the dealer is and how secure the lot is (and how honest the employees are). No way I'm dragging all our stuff out, finding a spot for it, then dragging it all back in. We had ours in to the dealer last month. I thought it might drag on waiting for warranty approval and then a part, but it was done in 2 weeks. Other than in a cabinet where they had to fix a leak, we didn't take anything out. No problems.

But for sure, anything very expensive or irreplaceable - take out. Most of the dishes and stuff we have in the camper are either old ones we replaced in the house, or inexpensive stuff, so we figured not a lot of risk.

I don't even lock it , if someone is going to steal from it I would rather not have the damage done to the door or windows.

This reminds me of the time that a customer videoed the interior of his TV while it was in for a routine engine service. Apparently he had some suspicions from prior service.

He caught one of the staff on video going through his compartments and personal effects, including a pill case containing his prescribed meds. The staff member was fired after showing the video to the service manager.

Morale: if you don't want someone going through or messing with your stuff, don't leave it in while being serviced.

I would take out anything of value. I won't say who, but two different dealers in different states have let me into customers 5th wheels that have been in for repairs when I was looking for a specific model before ordering. If anything of value had been lying around like tools or jewelry I could have easily pocketed stuff. Good thing I am honest!

40 percent of all people who to a party snoop in the host's medicine cabinet. So, your temporary house is in for work. Maybe, just maybe 40% of the staff might just snoop.

I guess it depends on the dealer, all the units they sell have everything in them already TV,microwave and everything else. I take nothing out and if it's missing no questions asked they would replace them. I can not say enough about the great service and fast from RVOUTLET in Danville Virginia.

good timing. took my tt to the dealer for warranty work . went to disconnect the tt and the electric jack stopped working. TT was connect to truck for power and battery was tested and fully charged. Jack was trying to move but acted like the battery was week. We had to use the hand crank. guess its something else for them to fix

Our trailer was in for some work in October. When I was looking at a few things before we picked it up, the tech in the shop said he pulled ours out of the garage to work on something else while waiting. A couple that was browsing on the lot came by and saw it - closed up in front of the service bay - and really liked it. He said they ended up ordering one without even being able to see it. I wouldn't want them using my rig for a showroom to whoever happened to be wandering around or even leaving it unlocked on the lot. But in that case, where somebody was a serious buyer and the dealer didn't have another one to show them, I would have been fine with letting them take a look - these people obviously had very good taste in campers. Plus we might have been entittled to a commission on the sale...

Personally, I would strip it completely.

While I "might" (Don't) trust the dealer and his crew, then normally just leave them on the lot while waiting for parts and bay time.

My level of "fellow man" trust is very low...
Just sayin'

Meh, we don't take anything out except for the 50 extension cord.

Of course, I don't leave true valuables in it any way, even when she's sitting in the back yard on shore power.

If they wanna steal my spackle (otherwise known as makeup) I'd say they have issues. And if they wanna meddle, just put everything back neatly. And STAY OUT of the liquor cabinet! They wouldn't find that anyway unless they did some in-depth searching...it's the drawer under the air bed sofa, with all the bottles wrapped in sofa throws.

We have our warranty work done at the same place we bought it. This is our second warranty trip and last time we had no problems. They have a resident/on site security guy also. Having said that, I wouldn't leave $1,000.00 lying around in 'er.

I'd hate to know they're so untrustworthy I have to strip everything out every time we take 'er in. That'd be too much like moving.

P.S. I just hope they don't get into the pantry and steal my Beanie Weenies or Spam! It'll be ON!

You know, it really wouldn't be worth breaking in Weezers trailer, even though I now know where the good stuff is (definitely not the SPAM and iffy on the spackle). She's the type who would give it to you outright if you just ask.
