Washing your RV away from home
Newbie question...after passing several RVs on the interstate today, I began to wonder where snowbirds stop to wash the salt/ snow off their vehicles...

There are high bay spray wash facilities that work quite well. You just need to keep your eyes peeled for the high clearence bays, there more common than you think.

Most RV parks have a local mobil wash that will come in and wash and or wax at your site. I just had mine done.

I ask the campground manager if I can wash mine. Sometimes they say yes, sometimes they don't.

I've heard as little as $75 and upwards to $300. Depending on what type of RV and what service you actually want or get.

I paid 300 for wash and hand wax. This includes roof and wheels. They had 3 guys and it took them 2.5 hours. Not cheap but I can't do it myself.

Phil that's actually not bad for a wash and wax. Plus the roof.

I paid $420 plus tip for 3 guys to wash and wax my 42'er in Key West. I couldn't believe how nice it came out!

A wash wax and roof treatment is 100$ here in yuma. They come to you. Some include wheel trearment as well. Of course they try to get you to upgrade but the basic is good.

OUCH!! I am a "do it yourselfer" kind girl. For $300 I can do a better job than most jack legs.
(Cold beers and good tunes are way cheaper than someone else doing a crappy job for $$$)

Cajun its really not bad and they did a great job. They apply the wax with a hand held orbiting buffer and take it off by hand. A lot of the road rash scuffles are gone. I don't let them use the power washer on the front because of the Diamond Shield. They use a couple of low pressure power washers with some kind of spot free water. Not a cheap set up.

Good that you can do that. Not sure what a "jack leg"is. I hate paying someone to do my chores but that's the way it is. I did drink some coffee and might have hummed a tune. Not sure on the tune but definitely drank coffee. Hope that helps.

Phil57 -- REALLY?!? where do you live? Here in the South we call them "Jack Legs:
jack·leg adjective \ˈjak-ˌleg, -ˌlāg\
Definition of JACKLEG
1 a : characterized by unscrupulousness, dishonesty, or lack of professional standards <a jackleg lawyer>
b : lacking skill or training : amateur <a jackleg carpenter>
2: designed as a temporary expedient : makeshift
— jackleg noun

We all come to camping at different ages, with different abilities and disabilities. I can do some of it, but my DH can't do any of it, so I'm thankful that each of you so willingly contribute to these threads. I know the ROOF will definitely be done by someone else.

Phil57. you're right. That equipment can be expensive. I always say we each have our calling. I gladly pay someone for doing their job well.

One word of caution: Stay away from high pressure power washers like the ones used on large trucks. If not used properly, they will lift decals, and can loosen caulk and window seals. These are used by some services as they are quick and easy and do a great job cleaning, but can cause permanent damage.

I normally do mine when I get home from a trip. I have a 12ft ladder to get on the roof.
If I need a touch-up while traveling, I keep an extendable RV wash brush in the basement. With the brush and the pocket hose I can get the job done.
Love bugs here in the South must be removed as soon as possible or they will distroy the paint. If I am doing the front only for the bugs, I rather ask for forgiveness than permission.
If the RV park won't let me do it there I wait until I get to one that will.
