Watch out!!!Don't forget to look up!!!!!!

What follows after seeing the attached pic.....you guessed it.... a new roof and a refinish to the front cap....our 2014 Silverback 33RL was delivered to the dealer yesterday for those needed repairs....Looks like the DW and I will be without for about 3-4 weeks.....it's not really too bad but the RV is only 6 months old and we want it back like new......Come on Farm Bureau...let's be fair about this!!!!

Ah Crap! Sorry about the mishap. Was that tree in a campground or along a route somewhere?

Hangs over the parking area at the registration office at Bull Shoals/White River State Park in north central Arkansas.....there's room for two rigs to pull side by side...Class A was on the outside...I was going to take the inside nearest the sidewalk to the office which is where the tree hangs over the parking area....my fault for not watching but they should have it cut back to at least 15 feet.....I've sent them an email making that request....looks like others have hit it before....the next morning I went to a local RV dealer to get repair material.....told him what had happened and he said, yeah, he had heard about that limb out at the park.

I've had Farm Bureau Ins. for over 40 years and have good results with them. had to wrangle a couple times once when daughter totaled out a car. But you never know. let me know how you make out will be interested as we have them for our camper as well insured with them. We are Mutual members with FB to have heard that can make a difference.

Did the same thing a couple of months ago , that is a 10 to 12 thousand dollar fix. USAA says it is a chargeable accident and my premiums will go up

I completely agree with you jtownstumpjumper, all limbs in a campground should be trimmed back to 15 feet. Here in Missouri there is a tree at Meramec State Park that has a large limb that is 12.5 feet above the campground road. Travel trailers have no issues but if you have a fifth wheel it could be bad news. The reason that limb isn’t trimmed is because it is on a 300 year old Burr Oak.

On the road leading up to Sycamore Lodge in NC there are trees really close to the road on a very narrow road. I think the limbs are high enough but have been afraid to push the envelope. It is a quarter mile stretch with good open views. I drive down the center of the road here. The locals are used to rv'ers doing this and will pull out of your way so you can get through. When asked about the trees, Sycamore Lodge said the trees are protected and they can't do anything about them. I feel like campgrounds who can't clear the branches should post warnings on the road and on their website to make guests aware so they don't damage their rigs.

I know that tree at Meramec State Park and when leaving you must move over into on coming traffic if pulling a 5th wheel or hit it. I have suggested to park management to move the road at the tree one full lane or lane and a half for about 40 ft and they thought I was joking. You can see where it has been hit over time. Nice park, bad tree.

How tall is a typical 5th wheel? I never really thought about how tall you guys are. But now that you mention it, I can see how you would be hitting stuff.

Vin.

That depends on full profile or mid profile and whether or not you have a front AC. I have a full profile with a front AC and measured my fiver at 13'6"!!!!!

@jtownstumpjumper, I hope your insurance company takes care of this issue for you and I really hope the repairs don’t take too long. I know you don’t want to miss too much of the camping season.

@bpdlk33, the last time I was at Meramec SP that tree had small limbs hanging over the other side of the road too. I don’t like tree limbs of any size rubbing on the roof of my fifth wheel. Here’s a pic of that tree, notice the yellow warning tape on the offending limb?

@vinmaker, the height of most fifth wheels today range from 12’3” up to 13’6”. You have to keep a lookout for low overpasses, low canopies at filling stations, and low tree limbs. Low tree limbs are the hardest to judge in my opinion.

I wonder if the owner of this Wildwood pulled it to the FROG rally in Goshen they will fix it?

Even the canopy of a gas station can cause problems for fifth wheels.

Forest River, I believe, shows our Silverback at 13'4" with the front AC....without front AC we are 12'11".

Helpful tool

You might want to check out a safety item called Giraffe G4. Can be found at giraffeg4.com. It mounts on your tow vehicle and warns you of low clearances. I have bought one but have not installed it yet.

Looks like a good idea but at $200 plus shipping it's an expensive toy.
