Water heater cleanout

How often should I drain my hot water heater and low point drains? We haven't camped in 5 weeks but will be heading out again soon. The water sitting in the water heater shouldn't do any damage over a few weeks right?

I don't drain until I winterize. Been doing it this way for years with no problems. Though on the freshwater side we use it up pretty quickly. If I was to go 4 or 5 weeks between outings I would probably drain the fresh.

Depends . if it's well water then yes it can start to smell after a week or two , sometimes less .. if it's treated city water then you should be ok for a few weeks . i always drained mine if it was going to sit more then a month . others let it go for months . you should always at least flush the tank min once a yr . i do mine twice but it's in full time use

Fill a glass with water from the water heater. Cover it and let it sit in the RV until your next trip. Check the water. Are you comfortable drinking it?
