Weight concerns, please set me straight.

OK so the wife and I fell in love with the 3051S, problem is our dealer told us due to the fact we have 3 to 5 people (600 to 900lbs) traveling with us at any given time this MH is not for us. His justification was the "fact" that if we all brought 100lbs of goods for each person we could not put any fresh water in the tank and could not fill the gas tank completely because we would be over weight.

Is this true? How do I calculate how much weight this unit could carry if my gas tank and fresh water tank was full? I definatly want a full gas tank, I can live with half fresh water though... Can some of the owners school me on the topic please.

And another question comes to mind while thinking about this... what if we were over weight and got into an accident, would insurance still cover us?

Thanks all for your help!

What is the Cargo Carrying Capacity of the MH? There is a sticker on the door, also states the water capacity and weight. Add up your weight and see if the sales statement is true or not.
Another concern is how many seat belts are in the coach.

What a crock!! I looked it up independently... Orion is dead on. I wonder what game your dealer is playing at. Possibly just ignorant or an innocent mistake, but common sense should kick in at some point.

A MH that can't carry full tanks and multiple people??

GVWR is the max it can be alone.
GCWR is the max it can be while towing....
Do I not need to look at what it weighs empty and minus that from the GVWR? I will not be towing anything...

Gross weight = 14500
Dry weight = 12848

Capacity for fluids, people and gear = 1652lbs

Seems to be a heavy unit for the chassis it's on, can't support a lot of extra weight above how they built it. Seems kind of stupid but true.

Ah, but the dry weight is 12,848, leaving a cargo carrying capacity of just 1652 pounds.
Oops, YEGrolo beat me to it ...

I have noticed this on Sunseekers and can't figure out how they can make a large motorhome with such low cargo capacities. Check the yellow sticker in the drivers door or in the door to the coach and you will see the cargo capacity. I just bought a Sunseeker 2860 DS and it has just over 2,000 lbs cargo capacity. Not a lot, but should be enough for my wife and I. Others I looked at had about 1,200 lbs.

Who was the dealer?

I'll check a sticker on the line, but to answer the seatbelt question, there are 7.
