A friend took one axle off and changed the hitch. Drives it with a CDL. He likes it but says tough to drive solo around town

Actually it's a Kenworth not a Volvo. He has the smart car mounted like above between the sleeper cab and his cedar creek fiver.

A former co-worker of mine did this. Bought a used Freightliner to pull his 5er. Then a year later he turned around and bought a tour bus off a retiring musician. Tried to get me to buy the Freightliner off him.

Biggest draw back I see is traveling around town, unless you carry the smart car and maintenance costs price tires, brakes, etc...........don't know if insurance cost is an issue either.

One thing to consider before buying a semi to pull with is just how good of shape is the engine versus the price you will buy it for. If the engine (especially a Cat) needs work you will spend a lot more than the $60K for a new truck.

Got a brother-in-law that owns a trucking company and he buys used semi's but usually has to put a lot of work into the engines. He has his own shop and mechanics so it is just a cost of doing business to him but paying someone to rebuild one of those big engines is a LOT of money.

I doubt if the combined weight of tractor and trailer are 80,000 lbs. He should be good to go.😆
