Been there, done that. 5 times at least. Go to this page

http://www.jobseekers-ptc.org/js/ind...tpage&Itemid=1

Click on "Contact Us" Write "Dave" an email and see if there is not a job seekers chapter near you. This is the singular best peice of advise you will get in your job search. I did what they told me to do, although I hated every minute of it, but when I interviewed for this job I had the offer before I left the building...for a position that was not advertised!!

Mike-
That is totally for ****! I'm sorry to hear the bad news but, at the same time, I hope that, real soon, this sad event turns out to be a blessing in disguise.

Thanks everyone for the support.

It was a shock and this is my second time to go threw this. It may be tough for the short term but It will be better down the road.

My family can tell you I have said for 4 years I woke up EVERY morning wondering if today is the day.

So honestly I am somewhat releaved. stressed but on the other side the load is off.

Just got to find work.

Thanks, Mike

That sucks. It happened to me. The official story was that my position was consolidated back into the SF Bay area (I am in MI). What really happened, my new boss (I was with the company for 26 years) was a criminal and I refused to play along. They did offer to let me keep my job in SF, but I saw the writing on the wall. I was unemployed for 3.5 years and switched careers from computers to the horticulture industry. It was the best thing that happened to me. Like you, I woke up every morning wondering if I would still have a job at the end of the day. They loss of income and then the job with lesser pay continues to be a challenge, but my stress levels are way down and I LOVE what I now do. One good thing, we bought our first travel trailer, up from a tent, 1 month before I got the axe and we were able to spend the whole summer camping. You just have to keep your head up and ears open. And don't be ashamed to let everyone know you are looking. You never know where your next opportunity might come from.

BTW - Karma works! My former boss got canned and his wife left him. While I don't generally wish bad on anyone, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.

Sorry to hear that. But I'm a glass half full kind of guy. Another opportunity may be waiting.

Been laid off before and it's not pleasant. Quit a job that was absolutely unbearable.

Been fired and went to work the the very next day at the job I have now. Carried a resentment for years until I realized that it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

All of that was quite a shock to a 20 yr retired vet. This civilian world is crazy!

Robert (powerboatr) asks a good question, will you consider a move? In our situation, I'd say oh hell yes! My company is rebidding and may lose. Nothing is holding us here but my job. Maybe it is not realistic, but give me a chance to go job hunting in the TT.
