Unbelievable. I've ridden similar ferries, how no one was standing along the back gate is surely an act of god.

That is horrible. It appears a solar panel almost took out the ferry passenger in the dress that just made it across the back end alive by a few seconds.
It seems like it went under her feet instead of cutting her off at the legs.

Yeah i just read that on a news site. Apparently he had just done the brakes himself the day before. Hedid all his own repairs it said. Now that thing would have air brakes right? And you have to be licensed to work on those too right? I sure hope he had the right training. Would be such an irresposible thing to do.
Pretty amazing nibody else was killed or seriously hurt.
And the way the MH just pancakes really shows how little strength there is in the body frame.

The articles I read said the driver was a hero, nobody else was hurt or killed because he avoided hitting them as he was out of control and laying on the horn to warn everyone. I couldn't imagine that last minutes of his life, talk about scary.

Ferry RV accident
Site Team Note: This post and several others have been merged into this identical topic.
One killed as RV jumps ramp and lands on ferry in Quebec.
And it was caught on surveillance video.

'fake' news, maybe??
I think you'll find that the laws of gravity would hardly be in favor of any vehicle 'jumping' nearly that far, no matter the speed, and especially with the ferry moving away from it the whole time... I don't believe it - and it's easy to 'fake' videos, for sure. You may say that the 'news' would never announce such an invalid 'video', if they didn't have some type of 'proof' that it actually happened, but just because the news announces it, even if they 'believe' it, doesn't mean it happened, at least not in the way the 'video' portrays it - doctoring the 'jump' of the rv leads to a great story, though you might find that the 'real' story was much less exciting - the RV simply tipped over the edge, with it's front wheels dangling - and all because the driver had a heart-attack while entering the ferry terminal, which precipitated the loss of 'control', and the ultimate 'accident'.
Now, if you're still reading this...am 'I' providing fake news??

I am about to merge this thread into a previous one about this incident. It is real, and the man's brakes failed on the way down a hill. He did not survive this and his female passenger is in bad shape the last I read.

With no more proof than that I wouldn't say fake but I'd say I'd like to see more.

Not so sure I'd buy the "bad brakes" theory. That jump took a lot of horsepower and most likely a foot solid on the accelerator.
The article references a "mechanical" breakdown. I think that was misspelled, should have been "mental".

The approach to the ferry is a step hill down to the banks of the river. No HP or accelerator required. I don’t believe it is fake news as it was covered on all the trusted local news stations.

There is a new video clip not as good as the one i posted earlier showing the same crash from a different angle.
It truly is amazing nobody else was killed. I have seen several eye witness videos that stated he was blowing his airhorns and vehicle horn as he went down and up the ramp. If that so he is a hero as his last thoughts were to try and save complete strangers.

Why didn’t he downshift down to first to slow the rig and then slam it into park? Sure beats what happened.

At high speed his transmission most likely wouldn't go into park or 1st gear.
Steep hill, no brakes, he rubbed the walls on the way down trying to scrub off speed. He did all he could.
They don't put truck runaway lanes in the mountains for looks!

Putting it in park would not have slowed it down. It would have just tore the transmission up internally, and then 1st would not have worked after that. Downshift may have slowed it down who knows, but probably not enough.
E brake maybe........ but probably not either
Sad .........

I think you guys may have misinterpreted my post. I meant to convey doing what I often do going down hills. Manually shift to 3rd, then 2nd and then 1st to slow down. If this doesn’t allow you to maneuver to safety Then when youareas slow as possible without brakes, jam into park or reverse to slow more if possible. Yes you will ruin the tranny, but that looks like a better option than ruining your whole rig and ending lives.
