Wet bolts vs neverfail bushing

Wet bolts vs neverfail bushing

I'm looking into replacing the old shackle set up on my TT and want some input. I'm looking at adding the thicker shackle and wet bolt set up and adding a equa-flex to replaced the cheap OEM one on the rig. So my question is has anyone done this and how can I tell what GVW rating of axles that I have now. I believe that they are Lippert as everything else is on the rig, just not sure how to fine out?? Also is the wet bolt a waste of time and are the never fail bushings that good. Any input would be great. Thanks for the help!!! I have not seen a wet bolt kit listed for the 3500 axles just the 4-6K are they the same??

Like AquaMan said the capacity will be stamped on the axles or will have an information tag attached. Anything is better than the plastic bushings. My last trailer had me scratching my head trying to figure out why I had one tire wearing on the inside edge, my bushings were shot. I replaced them with the Dexter E-Z Flex system which cured the tire wear problem, provided a smoother ride as proven by the clothes hangers not falling in the closets during transit, and took away some of the noises heard during towing. I don't have any experience with the brand you describe but I looked up the website and feel these should be a good investment for you.

After bringing my brand new TT home, I replaced the OEM with the Dexter E-Z Flex. Had my local tire store do it. Approximately $100. They had no trouble removing the bolts with nylon sleeves. No rust or corrosion yet. Need to grease the zero fittings every 3 to 4k TT miles. Check out RvNet.com for their post on installation with lots of pictures and comments.

You have a number of questions listed;
1) the weight will be on the axle it self as a tag or sticker
2)You need to contact Lippert/Dexter to learn what axles are in which grouping
3) i am not a huge fan of the wet bolts i know of a few folks who have had just as many issues with wet bolt set up as not
4) i prefer the never fail (have installed them on my 5er) very easy to do, feel they are better just as the warranty states
Hope this helps and Happy camping

What is your concern with the wet bolt style?

I've used the "never fail" bushings on my 12K+ fiver and their advertisement is a bit misleading. They do wear thru, just takes longer than the stock plastic ones. Think about it ... a nylon type material riding inside a steel spring eye and against a steel bolt. Go with the wet bolts ... easy install if you have floor jacks to help guide the axles and cribbing to support the frame. Keep your RV hooked to your truck and do one side at a time.

Before you place the order ... call ETrailer.com 800-298-8924 or Tweetys RV 800-358-5894 just to price things out. Tell them what you want and they may save you some dough. I've ordered from both several times ... good prices/fast shipping. I'm not monetarily connected to either.

Hondaman, I just checked out your link and that is exactly what I'm going to do. My question to you is why do you say to make sure the grease holes are not at the top of the shackle set up??

Lippert warned that if the holes for the grease on the bolts are at the top that there is a possibility of a high amount of contact pressure at the top and block the grease hole. If the holes are on the side the grease will come out of bolt easily.

After learning the hard way my first wet bolt install ... what Hondaman174 says is spot on. All the rest of my wet bolt installs for acquaintenances, I've made sure the grease holes are either at 3 or 9 oclock.
