What Cleans Butyl Tape
Person who owned my Crusader redid his sink drains in kitchen using Butyl tape instead of Plumbers putty? What a disaster but I have to clean the drains and the sink, tried Alcohol, Dawn but still sticky. I was going to try Mineral Spirits unless someone knows something better? It is all over the sink.

mineral spirits X2 . A sharp plastic scraper or old toothbrush ground to a chisel point may help you get the thick stuff off and not damage anything

I bought a pkg of plastic razor blades at Ace hardware, great for scraping and not damaging, then I used isopropyl alcohol

brake cleaner, if it does not melt the plastic or mineral spirits. WD40 does pretty good for glue removal or even goof off.

Thanks all used Minersl Spirits on the sink and drains, cleaned them well, needed more so I can install my Maxxair 4500 Sunday anyway. Wife just wants to run Bleach thru each sink and down the drains to get rid of the Mineral Spirits smell, Blahk

Surprised no one mentioned it but Butyl alcohol and it will wipe/rinse off like a hot knife in butter.

Before mineral spirits, I'd try cooking oil. That works on bottle labels where WD-40 doesn't cut it. Might have to go with the mineral spirits but go with something less toxic and flammable first.

3 m general purpose adhesive remover works great about $20 a qt - which lasts forever
can be used on almost any surface - have found a hundred things it cleans around the house also- was recommended by our local rv repair center

Watch out for the acetone since it melts a lot of plastics. One thing you can try that we use all the time to remove stickiness of tape glue is Rubber Cement Thinner. It is available at places like Staples, etc. Expensive, but, a small can lasts for years. Use a cotton cloth wet with a small amount (like old underwear or dish towel) and wipe it on. Takes just a couple of seconds for it to loosen the glue and it wipes right off. Just be careful because it is very flammable since it is essentially naphtha, which is the main ingredient in white gas. If you are old enough to remember white gas, then you know it is also the main ingredient in Coleman camping fuel. That also works pretty well as a substitute for the Rubber Cement Thinner, but, it is slightly different. Probably not enough difference to keep it from working for your purpose. Best part, is rubber cement thinner doesn't melt the plastic in your sink. We used it for graphic arts cells for many years (before computer typesetting).

Mineral Spirits worked well but even though it says odorless don't work with this stuff in closed spaces wow, real stinky stuff.
