Did you go to Woodstock in that Van back in the day when vanning was popular?

Yes that’s me about paying my camper off. This last one was financed for twenty years, I told the sale person that I wouldn’t live that long. Without batting a eye he said someone would.

Tents all through childhood and as an adult until 1990. Bought my parents' 1986 Coachmen 10ft PUP as they were retiring from camping and boating.

Took the PUP from NC to Alaska (some camping along the way), and found it was pretty useless in Juneau (no road access in or out of town). Went back to tent camping. After Juneau, went to Kodiak and continued tent camping. Moved to Northern California, still tent camping. Went group camping at Sugar Pine SP, where a bear in the campsite scared DW, DS, DD (I was on an early AM hike).

Bought a PUP (Coleman Westlake) to continue camping and group camping at Tahoe. Sold it when we left California - part of selling out to leave for Colorado. Continued tent camping and backpacking with DS as Scout leader, culminating in 10 days/112 miles at Philmont.

In 2014, DW saw a used A-frame for sale. Ended up buying a new Rockwood A122 for same price. Sold in 2018 because we needed a potty in case for DW's chemo side effects. And wanted a little more room inside and a little more storage.

Bought a 2019 Flagstaff T21TBHW A-frame, because our camping style requires garage storage and towing with a minivan. At first, I was unhappy because the bigger A-frame seemed harder to handle single-handed than the A122. But I have refined my techniques, re-adjusted the WDH, more carefully loaded what we carry, and now it's no more difficult then the smaller A-frame. The floor plan is much more convenient for us, and DW really likes camping again. We've been camping 3 weekends in May so far.

Tents with two of us, a big tent for 4 years when baby #1 then baby #2 arrived, bought our E3 popup when #3 came along and happily camped 4 years in that (Toronto to Savannah and lots between!). Baby #4 arrived this winter so this week we said a grateful goodbye to our popup and hello to our new Shamrock 233s hybrid.

What did you upgrade to?

A new 11 Keystone Passport bunkhouse about 30 ft long. Fell in love with another new 12 Keystone Laredo 5 th wheel bunkhouse 40 ft long. Now for the last 2 years a gorgeous 11 Berkshire 390 RB 360 hp. 40 ft bath & 1/2 stack w/d. No bunks. 4 slides 2 sets of opposing ones. Really opens her up. We love her.

Lots of tent camping early on as a kid. Introduced DW (then DG) to it 20 or so years ago. Weekend at Ft. Wilderness.

She swears she enjoyed it, but we didn't go there again until this past March in our 2017 Surveyor 201RBS. (And now we have 2 future reservations there as well as at various state parks in Fl.)

Lately she's making noises about a Class C. I suspect that's going to be our next progession.

Never gave up tent camping. The tents just got smaller and lighter. First trailer was a 32' R-Vision along with 5.7L Tundra. Next trailer was a heavier Springdale which prompted getting a 7.3L Ford. Last setup was a 40' toy hauler and 6.7L Ford dually. Nothing now.

1. 2 person pup tent. Feet stuck outside the flap.
2. 2 person regular tent. Son borrowed it. Wasn't worth saving after that.
3. 29' Terry TT
4. 32' 5ver
5. Slide in dual slide truck camper. Loved it, DW didn't.

6. 39' 5ver. Couldn't pull our RZR behind it. (CA problem)
7. 39' Super C. Looking good.

Have been pulling for 14 years all over U.S.

1. 25’ Airstream - kept 6 mos. Needed more space
2. 30’ Airstream - kept 6 Years. Wife wanted W/D & recliners
3. 38’ Bighorn 5er- kept 4 Years. Too much for short trips
4. 23’ Rockwood Mini-Lite. Kept 2 Years. Murphy bed didn’t work out
5. 26’ Rockwood Ultra-Lite. Pefect for us!

Pulled them all with Ram 2500’s except 5er which was pulled by Ram 3500 Dually. Great camping experience with all of them.

Current camper is special order 2019 2606WS with all options and 2nd AC. Love it! We can travel fast and light!

1. 43 years ago Tarp leanto out of a 1972 Datsun 1200 2 door coupe or front seat
2. Got soft bought a 1970 Datsun pickup put a custom ordered Northland canopy on it
3. Bought new 1988 Nissan extended cab hardbody - back to tarp leanto or front seat
4. Bought new 1991 19 foot Layton fifth wheel - pulled with the hardbody
5. Bought new 1991 Chevy 3/4 ton extended cab - family outgrew hardbody
6. Bought new 1992 Layton 27 foot fifth wheel - family outgrew 19 footer
7. Bought 06 duramax CC LB - grandkids
8. Bought new 2018 32 foot triple slide Rockwood Signature Ultra Light 5er - grandkids
9. Just bought friends 9.6 Bigfoot p/u camper to camp AND bring my boat - still have the Rockwood - use both

The hardbody w/v6 pulled the 19 foot Layton just fine
Had fun to whole time - wouldn’t do it differently

I was camping at KOA at Wolf Lodge on north end of Coeur d’Alene. Saw a guy driving an older square nose S-15 pulling a 17 foot fifth wheel AND hooked to the back of the 5er was a 14 foot aluminum boat with a 15 hp merc. That’s legal in Idaho - smart? Different subject!!

What was your progression?
We started with a 21 foot Mallard class c motor home back in 1994. In 1995, we moved up to a 29 foot Gulfstream Ultra class c. Kept it for 4 years. With 3 kids under 5, we got out of camping for about 7 years. We then bought a pop-up and camped for about 3 years till we sold it. Bought a 21 foot deck boat and enjoyed skiing and tubing for 9 years. After selling it and becoming empty nesters, we bought our current camper, a 2016 Forest River Salem Hemisphere Lite 282rk. We are really enjoying some long trips now that we are retired.

I went from a 30' bumper pull toyhauler to a 42' fifth wheel toyhauler. I couldn't be happier with the ease and towability. I am completely happy with our rig now.

Started with a tent, and then went to a 70s model Steury pop up.
Then back to tent for a bit. Then 1996 26’ coachman Catalina TT. Then to 2004 coachman chaparral fifth wheel 26’. Now have a 32’ FR Flagstaff ultra lite 5th wheel. I like it so far just hope it holds up like the Coachmens did.

2013 FR Flagstaff 8528CKWS
2012 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi

This is Fun

1. 36' Landmark 5ver. Loved it, but "it sure would be nice if" separate w/d instead of combo, more counter space and kitchen storage. Kept it for almost 10 years.
2. 43' Landmark 5ver. Had all the above, but too dark inside, even with shades up and terrible to park. Also, very limiting as far as state/national parks. Kept it for 4 years,
3. Traded even for a Flagstaff Super Lite 26RSWS, just under 30" hitch to bumper. Same amount of counter space as first Landmark. I'm older and smarter. It's a breeze to park and drive. What do I miss? The washer/dryer on longer trips.

We do not full-time. We go out for 1 to 2 weeks at a time and occasionally as long as 5 weeks. We pull with a 3500 RAM dually, but will go to a 2500 single when we get a new truck.

We thought about going to a class c on a sprinter chassis, but in the end, decided to stick with the towables, because even with a small class c, we thought we would probably want a toad.
