What do you look for in a campground?

When chosing a place to take the family, what amenities do you look for in and around the campground? Starting to toy with the idea of owning a campground YEARS down the road but am starting a little research now. Thanks in adance for your replies!

Totally depends on the destination and what our intent is for the trip. Keep in mind you'll never be able to please everyone, in fact it'll be hard to please the majority sometimes... Also the land itself will often depend on the answer to this. Forested, more isolated CG will often try and stick to a more natural setting, whereas resort style settings will be completely different.

The size of the rigs that can be accommodated will of course determine if we'll visit from the word go.

Start with good quality campsites with proper amenities that well maintained and basic but well maintained bath houses etc and go from there.

Being retired and not having any children, we hunt level, somewhat open and easy in/out sites at least 20'-30' wide. Like concrete pads with patios and a picnic table. Electric at the rear or midway and water/sewer midway to the front. NO BARKING DOGS!

If we're looking for the full hookup campgrounds...gotta be super clean & plenty of amenities for the kids. (we'll pay the price-no elcheapo here)

If we're going for non full hookup campgrounds...more natural, in the woods setting preferred with plenty of trails for hiking & biking.

Also retired. We prefer the State and Corp parks. Most are close to lakes or other water features. it' does't matter if they have sewer or not. Our TT has tanks large enough to accommodate at least a week. Do need electricity, water preferred . We like the trees and larger campsites. Each to his own!!!

As others have said: Full hookups, very clean with a super-friendly and helpful staff. Back-in sites should be wide and easy to get into with lots of maneuvering room for the TV. Since we are very food-centric, we also like campgrounds that have nice restaurants (not fast food) nearby. Also looking for pet-friendly campgrounds. And campgrounds where owners set reasonable rules and are not afraid to enforce them.

Thanks for asking. Good idea.

I'll go against the grain a little. GOOD WIFI !!. Don't get me wrong, There are some vacations where I treasure not having phone or internet but on other vacations I love having it and love being able to stream video and music as well as surf.

Adding to this thread only because you are thinking of owning a campground. Here is a campground that offers just about everything with almost perfect reviews. We will be at this park next May to check it out. I think it was built in 2003, but not entirely sure. Paved pull through sites to lakefront private hot tub sites. Worth taking a look at. Photos are impressive.

campgrounds

We look for easily accessible full hookups, WIFI at site, cable TV, pull thru or easy access, friendly owners, pool, fully stocked camp store, concrete or gravel pads with picnic table. Not asking for too much, ARE WE???

Level, level, level. as a 50+ couple my husband suffers from severe arthritis in his ankle. So having a clear level surface to walk on while setting up is a high priority. For me super clean bathhouse.

The campground you pick depends on many factors.
What you like and are willing to put up with.
The generation you are looking at will depend on the location.
The tax's, insur. etc will play a big role.
How much of your life do you want to give up. The work never stops so maint. becomes a big factor.

I would become a workamper for a summer or 2 at different parks.
Just a few thoughts.

If we are just stopping for the night, a long pull through is what we want. Don't even really care about having all the hookups, just power and maybe water as we generally only hookup the power and don't even bother unhooking and or leveling the rig most times as we tend to leave at 530 or 6 in the morning and try to make as little noise as possible. If we are staying for a few days a backin is fine preferably nice and level and a pool is a must (prefer heated). Ot is nice to have a fire pit and a table and chairs as it is only DW and me. Location is the key when we spend any amount of time as we look for CG's near where we want to sight see. Oh and WIFI is a necessaty as I am on a short leash with work regardless of being on vacation or not.
