What do you use to connect to the internet?

Just curious as to what you folks travel with if you're like me and need your internet connectivity for pleasure, work, or both.

I'm a gagdet geek but the point of camping for us is to get the kids away from the video games and any screen time.

DW has an android phone for texting to update the family while we are on the road, I have a work BlackBerry on our enterprise mail system so work can keep tabs on me and we each have laptops so DW can update facebook and I can see whats happening on FRF at night. BTW we usually try for CG with wifi. If we happen to be in a provincial park then we go without as it isn't the end of the world to be without.

I still have unlimited data on Verizon and have an Android Phone that will tether data out for our Roku Box and Apple box and my Macbook Pro. I also have a work Mifi (verizon) device to use as well. Try to use both.. so as to not run up the data plans to far up on either device. I also have verizon ipad 2 that has a data plan as well, provided by work as well. That probably gets used the least of all. I am a Geek... I wont lie. LOL

I use an iPad and a DroidX (work); both through Verizon.

My work emails and calendar and our personal emails and calendars are pushed to the iPad's excellent email and calendar apps. Plus I can login remotely from the iPad if I needed a program from my business since the iPad can't handle any of my firm's software directly.

The Verizon works well for us as far as coverage and speed (3G) go for the places we visit.

Note: The Droid has been pretty solid for me but mine is getting old and I'll probably upgrade to an iPhone to be better able to synch the Apple products.

To get on the internet - my wife and I have iPhones. Depending on my work schedule, I may be subscribed to the Personal Hotspot feature or not. If so, I share my internet to a multitude of devices (even more when my MIL is with us).

I use my HTC windows phone as an internet hot spot and I use my iPad when at the campground. When we're out and about, I just use my smartphone. I can't be without it.

A verizon mifi in US, android phone (acts like a mifi in canada) , a tablet, multiple laptops. If the kids are with camping me, then too many to count They are hooked on Blackberry and playbooks.

I picked Tablet because that's the newest thing on our list. You didn't have a list for all so here's mine.

2 hand held radios
1 CB
1-2 Laptops one is mandatory I run my company and will never turn down a call to help make payroll, the other depends on wether my DW needs to do some grading
2 "dumb" phones (can send pic text that's as smart as they get)
3-4 Ipods ranging from the old style nano (square one) to an Ipod classic 160GB
1 Nook tablet converted to Android Jelly Bean
1 Nook color strictly for reading
1 Nook simple touch If my son wants to pretend to read that is.
1 Ipad wife wouldn't go anywhere with out it (work supplied it she never lets that thing out of her sight says she won't be the first one to loose it).
And
1 hot spot to make it all work.

How much gets turned on
Here's the stupid part
On an average trip I only turn on my laptop if a customer calls. the 160GB Ipod runs all the time because mine has ALL the music everyone else has individually, the kids use their little Ipods sometimes mostly when Hank, Merill, and Cash come on. The Ipad or Nook tablet gets turned on about once a night to check email and read a couple forum related things. Nook color and simple touch get used for reading magazines and books.

I think we could save 50Lbs if we would stop bringing all that with us. And I am real proud of our kids they don't bring anything like video games or computers. We went to Yosemite in July and they never turned anything on just played with stuff they found around. And we pride our selves on trying to pick camping spots (when we are going for more than a weekend) without cell signal so even the parents will have to unplug more.

A verizon hotspot and 2 laptops since last May..so far its ok ..takes awhile to get used to "watching" data usage...but it was nice being able to check e-mails while camping at the state and county parks that dont have wi-fi...We probably have smart phones in our future ??

iPhone times 2 with data plan, iPad with data plan, and a Windows 8 WiFi Laptop. As long as we have a cell tower to hit we have internet.

We did just use our regular old cellphones and then the laptop for WiFi areas. DW got an Iphone and talked me into getting one, love it. I have all my manuals on my laptop. I use it when we have a good WiFi connection without paying. Don't know how we got along without all the stuff we have.

Often when RVing in the USA we do not have good WiFi for a number of reasons. KOA, Maderia Beach is a Corporate park with terrible service, mainly due to their provider.

This question is directed to RVer's who need to buy an Internet service plan and cannot get a deal connected to a HOME plan, for instance, us Canadians who want an Internet plan for a few months when going south, some providers require a USA address.

We have used Virgin Mobile 3G USB device (goes to cell tower) with some success, but, their download limits are small and Skype doesn't work very well. $55 /month with a 25G limit, last year.

Any suggestions for short term Internet Plans? Thanks !!!,

Your poll needs the ability to check multiple answers. I camp with a laptop and blackberry for work (Verizon Wireless), and iPad and a Kindle for play. I must admit the Kindle gets the most use when I am able to relax at camp!
