Campgrounds

This is for retired military and DoD retirees, there are Mil campgrounds on lots of the bases, and you can use them if you have a ID card. They can be found here. U.S. Military Campgrounds and RV Parks - Home Most are excellent places to stay, with lots of space, reasonable rates, and full hookups. Most have free wifi. We always plan a trip around which bases are closest to what we want to see. It's a nice perk.

Wish for campsites: sites that are age specific so families can be in one area and others can be in a "constant quiet area".

Bad campers

One of my pet peaves in a campground is the folks that have to bring an entire brace of dogs. Don’t get me wrong i love animals especially dogs and have JAKE the CAMPER DOG. I think there should be a limit of two per camp sight. Also on another note something that really bothers me is all the abbreviations on these forums. Sometimes it takes me minutes to figure out what in hell people are talking about. Sometimes i never do. What is a DW? I assume its a wife of some sort. What is an IMO. HAPPY TRAILS TO ALL!

That about says it. It seems if I stay for even a month, by the time I get to know a few folks and am able to get around without the gps, it is time to leave.

We have a couple of threads about them.

It may be worthwhile to browse a bit through that entire sub-forum as there are a ton of helpful hints and how-to-dos in there.

What I hate about going to a campground is when your Garmin 760 with all the parameters of the TT (ht 13'-6") plugged in and it takes you to this. Click image for larger version

What we enjoy about campgrounds are friendly people, clean sites, and new friends. It is amazing the great stories you hear from the people you meet while camping.
What we dislike are maintenance people who weed wack gravel at the edge of your site and pepper your new (maiden voyage) 5er's end cap with stones. On the good side the owners did order touchup paint from Palomino which arrived in the mail 2 months later.

Happy Trails

We camp part time in a constant quiet area—-it’s calles “home”. There I can control everything. Who walks where, dogs, kids, light, all of the important stuff. If I’ m feeling lonely then I go out amoung the great unwashed. 👍

I really hate campgrounds that have long term residents, who,s sites are cluttered with junk and trailer is a trashy mess, covered in green algae or rigged together with duct tape

Where is a good place to read and write park reviews??
I rely on many sources...

Reserve America gives a lot of info, showing campground layout maps and including reviews...

I then look up the campground using google maps to get an overhead view... often there are more reviews on that google page to read. See pic below...

for the more REMOTE campsites of the NFS, I use

https://www.forestcamping.com/

and

https://www.recreation.gov/

Hope this helps

My last two Fords flashes their parking lights, I have the horn feature set to beep only if I double push the lock button.
Eventually we'll get like the Europeans where they have a little chirp due to anti-noise laws.
I work at a wilderness resort where it is so quiet you can hear the wildlife but there is nothing worse than loud horn beeps anytime throughout the day. The guest parking lot is 500 to 1200' from their cabins but you hear those horns all over our 20 acres due to the quiet.
