What is this, before water pump

Was looking for the water pump today in our Shockwave. Pump was easy to find but I don't know for sure what this is on the suction side of the pump. Is it a small filter or check valve.
TIA

Probably posted in wrong thread, maybe mod can move it to plumbing. Thanks

That is just a screen to filter out "large objects "from reaching the pump, be sure to winterize this also! Youroo! !

Hmmm...I have never thought of winterizing that? If it is before the pump, would the RV antifreeze not flow through it prior to reaching the pump? I have an exterior connection for hooking up the antifreeze jug. Trlr is in storage right now so cant verify, but I think the bypass valve bypassing the fresh water tank
to draw from RV jugs is before that filter housing, making me think the antifreeze has no choice but to flow through that filter housing.

If you are using the water pump to winterize then that screen bowl should have AF in it, mine does.

When I winterized this year, the strainer turned out to be full of tubing shavings, more quality workmanship.

If one is using the holding tank to winterize it will have AF in it. If parallel winterizing it may or may not come into play dependent upon where the tap is done (before or after strainer) but just unscrew the strainer bowl and empty residual water out. No biggie.

Mine was already cracked after picking it up new off the lot in February. Getting to the pump with the myriad of uncooperative screws and all the paneling was a bear. Even though the dealer picked took care of the part and labor putting it in, it was a good learning point for me. I do not AF winterize but take all other precautions. Since getting to the pump is a pain, a little bit of thermostatically controlled heat in the underbelly has not left me hanging.

We removed ours completely. Our past used TT's never had them either, and if they did, they were removed by another previous owner. I can only imagine not knowing of when this cheap plastic container would crack and the amount of water that would already be seeping / saturating the floor before realizing it in those hidden compartment areas. Being it's only a strainer, and I know where our water comes from, and what hoses my tanks are filled with, I wasn't too worried about removing it, so this was my fix! No more worries!

Good call. It's only a $10 part but can create a whole lot of aggravation!

If this strainer breaks/cracks it will Not allow the pump to pickup a prime, therfore No Water will be brought from the fresh water tank thus No water on the floor except the small amount from the tiny strainer bowl! Youroo! !

I'm sure it can. But given the last 9 years without using one, I suppose we have been lucky.

The water pump on the lite is a royal pain to get to but it does have the winterizing intake so when I pink it out the bowl and pump get a good drink.

It is a small filter/screen to catch any trash that may be in the system. they were giving them away at the FROG service center this year

I winterize my water system with air pressure which does not empty water from the pump area. After everything else is done, I use the winterizing input to fill the pre pump manifold, filter screen, and pump with antifreeze.

When I dewinterize, the antifreeze in this area all goes into the filter canister which is dumped then reassembled with a filter in it.

Agree also with this, no two RVs are plumbed the same it only takes one dip/low spot near a fitting and freeze leak come spring if you only use Air method! Youroo! !
