What Qualifies for "visited" status

Many people have a list of states/provinces they visit. Was wonder what qualifies a state/Prov as meeting the standards. For example if I am burning through NH on the way from Maine to VT we do not check off NH as a visited state. We (I) feel we either must spend a night in that prov/state or our dogs must do a #2 Da Missus says this concept is dumb and if we cross the border on foot or on a set of wheels it is checked off. A couple of friends said they have "visited" an area and all they did was drive through it at 55mph

Just throwing this out there

There is NO consensus. Each person/family does what they feel is right.

For us, we have to spend a night.

X2

I have be through every state west of the Mississippi River when I was a kid (continental US) but couldn't begin to tell you what states we stayed over night in or just drove through since It was before the DW & kids I have not counted them.

Your rules....................... everyone's idea is theirs. Do you have to stay overnight or just spend a lot of time visiting attractions.......... or just drive through (you were there) It is what works for you.

We count them if we've spent time there. Even at the airport. However over the years we've actually gone back and spent time in every state but Alaska.

TOWTA and I have camped in all the lower 48 and have visited Alaska, but not camped there. Have not visited Hawaii and probably won't.

Does it count if you fly over a state enroute to another, without landing? Seems that would be the same as driving thru a state without stopping for the night.

We mark it as visited if we visit the state to see things (not drive through). Some places we have visited, like Connecticut, we visited attractions but stayed in Massachusetts.

Maybe "visited" should be changed to "slept there".
