Question What to buy?

Hi All,

I am getting ready to purchase a new Rockwood 8311SS. It is a really nice RV but the only concern I have is that I am not sure about the length. The dealership I am working with is holding the 8311 for me but he also has 8000 other RVs on the lot and said we could look at purchasing another model if the 8311 wasn't right for us.

What are some of your experiences with managing TTs 30+ feet in length? Is something greater than 30 feet difficult to find spots for?

I just want to make sure that I will be spending my money wisely and on something that is going to be fun for the family versus a pain in the neck to work with.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Welcome, I had a 38 foot fifth wheel and now a 38 foot MH and I never had much of a problem finding a site. You may want to go 32 to 36 foot, you always wish you would have gone bigger once you get one. Good luck and let us know what you get, happy trails.

I agree with XL 378. We have had our 35' Rockwood tt for 3 years now. We will be upgrading to a 40' 5th Wheel in 2013. We wished we would have originally purchased the 5th wheel 1st. Good luck with your purchase and Merry Xmas!

You will find that some of the much older campgrounds that have not improved there sites will be tight if indeed your rig will fit and the slide outs can be an issue.

Pirateland in Mytle Beach is somewhat older but seems like most rigs will fit, but the one we get is on the very end and when I have my slide out open I can not open my awning because the awning hits the little roof over the table, some of the camp sites are not very wide on the ends.

Thanks for all of the input. I also have another question - I am definitely going with a TT because I will need the pickup's bed for storage etc. but have heard try are more u safe than 5ths. Any truth to that?

What? Are TTs more safe or are 5th wheels more safe? I have had both, if TT is set-up correctly they are very stable, but do prefer 5th wheels, they are more stable (in my opinion). They tow great, little to no sway, and are easy to hook-up and faster setting up and tearing down. There are good things about either RVs, just find the floor plan you like and what fits your TV and go for it. Happy camping - Dale
