What to do with my dogs???

We are wanting to take our camper out alot more but we have 3 dogs.. One small Pom and a yellow lab and a coon hound.
They are the only thing stopping us from hitting the road more often and I am so perplexed on what to do with them.
We could take the Pom with hardly no problem but the other 2 are outside dogs that are used to running free and staying inside at night. Gosh I dont even think I've ever put a leash on the coon hound. We can leave them for 2 or 3 days at a time with my elderly mother coming to check on them. But longer than that I wouldnt feel right letting them just run outside.
Anybody else have that problem and how did ya solve it?

Buy a bigger coach and take them with you. That's what we did,

We take our dogs w/us. Most rv resorts have dog runs. We've got a lab/golden retriever mix & a border collie/Australian shepherd mix, they also love to run& stay in @ night. But again, that's what we do. Just my 2 cents

And I may add- take along the vaccination papers on your dogs. If anything happens they will want to be sure the dogs have all their shots..

One final note: We've found that often campground owners know the names of local dog day care facilities in case you need one.

First get all the dogs leash trained asap as they must be on a six foot lead at all times in most campgrounds. Many campgrounds ask to see vaccine records so carry them with you. Are your dogs barkers? Meaning do they bark a lot? If so you need to train them out of this before camping. Are they friendly with other dogs? Are they aggressive? Aggressive or excessively loud dogs have been known to be kicked out of campgrounds. There is also the option of doggie camps or house sitters to watch the dogs. If they aren't used to being contained, then a house sitter may be your best option.

We have an aussie and a siberian husky that are with us where ever we go.They are our kids at this point in our lives. Up until 2 weeks ago we camped out of a 2 horse trailer with full living quarters.The dogs had the stalls,which I had removed the divider,making one 8 x 10 room. Our new unit is a Wolf Pack 315wp fifth wheel toy hauler,and the "toys" are the puppies.We had the dealer convert it to gooseneck hitch like the horse trailer by installing a reese goose box in place of the pin box before we pick it up next wed.
I took the back seat out of the f-250 and built a flat deck in its place,carpeted to match the truck.That is where they ride when we are riding.

Point well taken. I never thought about carrying their medical records/ shot records with us. I'll pack'em asap. Thank you very much, I would hate to get in a bind out of town.

Always take our dogs with us. I also took the back seat out of my F350 crewcab and that is where they ride. Now down to one dog. Had to put our yellow lab/golden retriever mix down 2 days ago. 12 years with us....he was a great friend and member of our family.

we have two 100 lb german shepherds......we use two large dog kennel that split in half..$80 a piece at tractor supply.....so when needed takes about two minutes to put together......they either stay inside or under camper in the kennels.....just depends on what is happening....we have a back seat hammock(autoanything, REI and several places sale for $39-119, depending on brand and style) that covers the rear cab and they lay there when traveling....or they ride in kennels in camper, which has only been once.....

lots of options....just depends on how much of family they are and how much time you want to put into to taking them....

sometimes our girls are a pain in the butt(especially when they pick up my tools and run), however when they are playing with kids around park and just being around is worth it....

We have two dogs, a border collie and a lab, on six acres with a pet containment system. In three years the dogs have never left their yard. I have two five gallon buckets full of water and there is a one acre pond that they drink from. At night they go into an 1800 sq ft chain link fenced area because of coyotes. They are fed at this same time and are happy and more than willing to go to bed.

When we leave I find someone I trust to come over twice a day, in the morning to let them out and the evening to feed and put them up. They are free to roam the rest of the day.

The dogs know when we start getting the camper ready that we will be gone and are sad. They are tickled to death when they see us pulling into the drive when we return. Works for us.

Paulsen, so sorry to hear about your loss. I know how hard it is to lose them, they really are family. Imo, dogs are the most perfect creatures on earth and we could all learn a lot from them about how to treat each other.

Our daughter has a coon hound. They live 2000 miles away. When my wife is talking to our daughter on the phone and the hound barks, my ears hurt. It stays in the trailer with them when they camp. I think it takes up one of the bed ends.....

I would take them, but you really need to pick the place's you stay most CG I have stayed at will allow only 2 dogs per campsite we have a Brittney with us all the time. also we carry our shot records for him just in case. It is a little harder with 3 then 1 but it can be done. Hope you can put a leash on the coon, because they all have a 6' rule even walking them to the dog run.

We have a 2 year old German Shepherd and he goes everywhere with us!
We take his rabies certificate with us so he can cross over to Canada when we are up that way. And we make sure his collar is on at all times with his tags and his microchip information just in case we get separated. Not that he would ever leave our side - he's a herder by nature and has to make sure he has his eyes on his family at all times!
The only problem we have ever encountered is that because of his breed, he is not welcome at some private campgrounds. But we usually go to state parks and they don't have breed restrictions, at least not that we have come across yet.
Get them trained and bring them! They will have a blast and you won't have to worry about them while you are away.

Also be aware that most rv parks have rules about not leaving your dogs unattended in the camper or out. Even with this rule I have seen lots of people lock their dogs in the trailer and go sight seeing. Some of them bark the whole time and some don't. A number of them believe their dog won't bark when they are gone.

When we travel, when we had two dogs, one would bark even if we were just outside, so they came with us everywhere. We are down to one dog and he is with us at all times. We have left him in the rv but never go farther than we can here.

There's a Georgetown here in the RV park where we are presently with 3 cocker spaniels and one beagle. They cover the dash with quilts and pillows while they are out and about.

It's quite comical on that dash when I walk by with Fred.

We take our doxy/pom mix with us, he took to camping like he's done it since birth. Our senior dog (cocker spaniel) couldn't go with us because of being stone deaf and partially blind at 16 years old.

We always dropped her off at a doggie day care when we were out for more than a weekend. She LOVED staying there.

Unfortunately we had to escort her to the rainbow bridge this past week. (thought I could type this without crying...nope)

She handled the challenge of losing her hearing and eyesight like a true champ, but then she went into renal failure.

Never had to do that before, hope to God we never have to do that again. Don't let ANY one tell you that's taking the "easy way out" with your beloved senior pets.

Hardest thing Sneak and I have EVER done.

So take them with you, if you can possibly do so. They grab onto our hearts, they love us so completely and unconditionally. They just don't have lifespans nearly long enough.

Labor day weekend there was a MH that had a full grown great Pyrenees dog that would lay across the dash. Imagine a 150 lb white fluffball sitting on the dash. I wish I had seen him crawl up there.
