Probably wasting your time taking it to the police.
This dashcam video went viral around here and because of the outcry the police did end up charging him................ however it didn't go anywhere when no one could identify the driver so the case was tossed out of court.
Here in Alberta the police will sometimes charge the owner but there will be no demerits issued if convicted and you still have to be willing to testify in court.

X2. Arkansas doesn't offer a DE program anymore and it's optional in Texas(border city). Sad. I took DE in the 10th? grade and I still remember a lot of the stuff we were taught. Brake there Cherry. Go from your lane into your lane. Do not change lanes within a 100 ft. of an intersection. Then there was the sad stories the state troopers told. Teacher was coach Steiger(sp) and very informative.

Hope your wife is OK. I know a few people that had long term injuries from deer encounters.
BTW, I had three times that cost in damages on my car and twice that on my wife's car when my Dear Wife (pun intended) backed into my car in our driveway. AGAIN !!! She has a habit of wrecking my cars.

DW is fine. This is the third deer she got in the last 18 months. First one she hit was with my Silverado, the second one got the whole front of the Encore and this one ran into her. She is 49, been driving since 18 and has hit a total of 6 deer and had this one run into her. Seven deer total.
For the record, I'm 64, been driving since I was 10 yo. I've only hit 3 deer in all that time. The first one I hit at 25mph driving on a real foggy morning at 3:30AM in a '75 Dodge Omni 024, broke a piece of fiberglass. The second deer run into the side of my '99 Dodge Dakota, no damage, the third took out the left headlight and grill on the same truck.

I have had numerous encounters with deer over the years, elk and antelope too. All wind up in my freezer and no damage to the car / truck.
...bang.

Police can't do anything unless they witness the behavior.

Video and even the tag # being visible doesn't identify the offending driver.

No, but I've conducted lots of investigations where the driver was ultimately identified. 🤔

I don't think drivers are any worse or better than they ever were, there are just more of them. And I hope I never get so old as to fault the younger generation for everything that bugs me
And you can report 'bad' drivers all you want if it makes you feel better. Good luck with that

I think that my parent's generation (boomers) did a pretty good job in teaching their kids how to dive. I needed to pass dad's test before the DMV had a look. He didn't care how old I was or that I had an appointment for my test. I would get permission to get my license when he thought that I was ready. I also needed to have a job to pay for the insurance, gas, and eventual car. My dad had a pretty good system. I've never been in an accident (54 years old) but I was way more afraid of what pops would do if I cracked his car up than anything the police or insurance company would do.
Not all parents in my generation have the standards of their parents.

I agree about the worse/better aspect.
Certainly more of them and certainly more 'eyes' out there capturing all the funky behavior. So much of this kind of stuff went unnoticed to the world until Al Gore invented the internet.
