The southern part of the state has a few nice places, but Im from the northern part. So I will speak to the top side of the land of Lincoln.

Now , we do have a great state for sports. We have Da Bears ,Cubs , Bulls and of course the BLACKHAWKS! Yeah that other team too....
One of our teams is always a contender. Hawks and Bulls are having a good season right now. The Blackhawks and its fans do the BEST rendition of the National Anthem hands down! Brings a tear to my eye every time Im at the Madhouse on Madison for a game and makes me proud to be an American! Wrigley Field, the worlds largest beer garden.

If you cant make it in Chicago land, well you probably cant make it anywhere.
Chicago is the hub of the midwest and the nation, thus we have jobs.

Again I agree, the politician usually serve their term if they are lucky and then go to jail. We are a very corrupt state and broke too!

The state does not invest in it's State parks and forest. Most all state parks are under staffed and way underfunded.
We do have Wisconsin and Michigan close by and they have great state parks!
Yes, they may call us FIB's but we can take it
So dont start making your vacation plans to come here any time soon. It will be disappointing. Good for a layover on a trip someplace else.

In Chapel hill we have UNC. Nearby in Durham, there is duke university with the famous Duke chapel and sara duke gardens. There is also the Duke homestead. Close to Durham is Raleigh. Raleigh has marbles museum, museum of natural science, museum of history. Jordan lake state park is close to Raleigh. If you want an rv resort in the raleigh durham area, best is in mebane (jones station rv resort) but it is 30 min from durham and 50 min from Raleigh. At the outer banks you have the Wright brothers museum. You have the wild horses in corolla and so much more.

Lots of good state parks in NC and some good rv resorts as well. We can camp year round here but Jan and February and sometimes March are when we usually start to see some really cold temps and snow (it was 15 degrees today and we still have Some ice covered roads from the snowstorm earlier this week). On the downside it gets really hot and humid in the summer and the no-see-ums can get really annoying. Other downside is state parks lock their gates at dusk so you have to be back by then.

Oh I forgot about the BBQ. We have vinegar based sauce in eastern NC, in the middle of the state we have Lexington style which is a combo of vinegar and tomato based, as you go farther west, it is tomato based sauce.

Great diving sites in the St. Lawrence River (old ships from war of 1812)

Lots of lake for boating

Many provincial and federal parks to visit.

Rockport Ontario a small little drinking village with a fishing problem

Louisiana is so diverse. A festival somewhere every weekend. Many beautiful state parks. Sportsman paradise and yes the food. From South Louisiana (Lafayette)

Fair enough I'll concede on those. We do love camping in SD. DW went to college there so we do visit often, its only a 90 minute drive for us

Most everyone associates NJ with the shore, but we have much more! Plenty of nice State parks, TONS of history - colonial forts and battlefields, Water Gap, craft breweries, rich heritage/history in glass-making, a terrain that would surprise you if you go from the NW corner to the SE tip, still quite a few orchards and farms for produce, many amusement parks, historic towns, D&R Canal, lighthouses, the USS New Jersey, aquarium, and even wineries! The southern half of the State is very different from the north in terms of people and culture, just as the north is then split by the effect of the greater NYC metro vs the highlands.

Pennsylvania is home to the best "Old Time" family amusement parks in America.
In western PA, We claim the 3rd oldest park, Idlewild Park, that opened in 1878 and was voted the best kids amusement park in America.
Western PA also has Kennywood Park that opened in 1898, so it too is an oldie but goodie.
There is Knoebels Family Park in eastern PA that opened in 1926. This is also a great park for kids... and the best amusement park food anywhere.

Continuing on, Danville VA the last confederate capital and, a still standing confederate prison, tobacco heritage, Civil War History abounding.

On west of Oaklevel, you have more wonderful, beautiful state parks (Natural Tunnel SP, Hungry Mother SP, Breaks Interstate Park and Grayson Highlands SP) which feature some magnificent scenery, beautiful mountains, great canyons, tunnels, grazing horses and other marvels.

The Creeper Trail, a biking trail, runs from White Top Mountain down into Damascus along an old railroad bed and is wonderful in almost any season (unless there is snow on the ground).

Music, music and more music. You have the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol. You have the Crooked Road with music, mostly bluegrass, along the route for miles and miles. Many local festivals that offer handmade crafts, antiques, music,

Mountains, valleys, caverns, greenery and miles and miles of the best motorcycle riding, country road driving areas than there are anywhere.

Our state has so much to offer, from ocean to mountains, cities to the middle of nowhere, rivers, lakes, creeks, great hiking trails, cities, history, NASA, business.
