Sorry, cat's been out of that bag a long time. Y'all have more outdoor recreation per sq. mile than any other state. When it's hot here in Va., we head west on I-64, Rt. 250 or 33. From resort camping at Stonewall Jackson Lake and Pipestem to the rustic charm of Babcock and Blackwater Falls, West-by-gawd-Virginny is the place to camp in the summer and early fall. (I don't ski so I stick to the other Virginia in the cold weather.)

Three words:

1. Gumbo
2. Etouffee
3. Crawfish

or better yet: #1 and #2 with #3 in them.

P.S. All the other food too.

Not sure how you all can live down south in those temperatures and humidity. It was -16 here the other morning BEFORE windchill and even after living through it for every year of my 37 year long life, I wouldn't trade that in a second for the heat and humidity of the south. I love my full four seasons especially, winter.

Idaho is for campers

We live in west central Idaho, lakes, rivers, mountains, trees and not too many people (Valley County population around 8500 and only 2 traffic lights). If they ever installed phone service to heaven it would be a local call. We are close to some great camping, and not to far from Yellowstone, Utah, Oregon coast.

Holy moly....10 pages, already!

I was an Army brat and then served almost 23 years in the Air Force so I've been to 18-countries outside the USA and almost every state. (I was on the IG team for 5 years...you vets will understand that.)

Anyway, born in New Jersey (fa-get-about-it!), raised mostly in Georgia, Germany, Texas, and Maine. (Family roots are in Maine...great place to visit in the summer/fall but highest taxes in the nation and no good job, nothing but a big playground for the out-of-staters who come and trash everything and shoot everything, illegally, then leave the Mainiacs to clean it up for next year.)

We've lived in Monument, Colorado for 14-years and some advise for you visitors:

-Forget about visiting Rocky Mountain National Park...way too busy. Instead, try out one of the many state parks nearby (our fav is Golden Gate Canyon but they don't, yet, have full-hook ups but do have paved, pull-thrus and electricity.)

-Awesome weather...we really do have four seasons and since we're the highest state in the nation, very low humidity all year and very mild winters. (Very few bugs here...you won't even need bug spray out in the deep woods but the many chipmunks and squirrels will tease your puppies!!)

-Colorado Springs: Garden of the God, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (better than the Denver zoo, IMHO), US Olympic Center, USAF Academy (a new visitor center is being built). In the fall, the USAF Academy football games are a blast and very cheap. (Usually under $50 for everything while you can spend $70 just to park at a Denver Broncos game up in Denver...it's crazy)

Anyway, if you're going to RV in Colorado, the state parks are the best we've seen...ANYWHERE....very impressive and well-managed and really not all that busy except for major holidays.

In addition to what I already mentioned (5 national parks, six within a five hour drive, 42 state parks, many national monuments, lots of BLM land), apparently after ten pages of responses, and only mine from Utah, I should also have mentioned that I have the place to myself! I wish that were the case; campgrounds in the national parks and many of the state parks do tend to become 100% reserved pretty quickly upon becoming available. Then we have to hope for walk-in availability.

PA has Heart's Content within its borders and I have my seasonal (for the time being) home there.

We're hoping to get out to Utah this year for some camping...I just wish we didn't have to drive through the Rockies to get to you! (And I-70 is about the only main road.)

First...it's not a state for me...it's a province and it's Ontario , Canada
Because we have the Great Lakes, Georgian Bay, The St-Lawrence Seaway.
The country's National Capital Ottawa...and the longest outdoor skating rink...the Rideau Canal.
We also have Niagara Falls and surrounding wine route.
The largest city of the country...Toronto and the CN Tower.
More provincial parks than you can count...each one as nice and unique as the last !
We have both French and English life styles and speaking people !
And most of all...because that's where I call it home.
Proud third generation egg farmer and happy woodlot owner !

I'm from the Northern Lower and just moved back here after 40 years in Texas. Couldn't stand the heat and missed the 4 seasons. Canoeing/kayaking the AuSable, great start parks, some of the finest golf courses in the country. Drive up to Mackinac and take the ferry to the Island. Lots and lots of lakes.

You forgot to mention the state, but it does have one good thing, Jim's Rib Haven in Rock Island. Have some very good friends there and had some wonderful times the 27 yrs we lived there, but gladly left the high taxes and corrupt local/state governments.
