Something to be said for scheduling...

Just returned from 5 days in a CoE in mid GA/AL where average highs by noon were 95 deg. Had a wonderful time. And a very shady site, so much so that we never bothered with the awning.

We got up reasonably early and had breakfast, did our walks, bike riding and such. When it got warm, we went into the local towns to find something to do. Eat lunch in town. Return to camp in full heat of the day and nap during the hottest part. After it begins to cool, come back out for grilling dinner out. Sit by the lake and watch the sunset.

Trailer stayed cool all the time, set it about 75 deg and left it there. AC ran all afternoon but cycled during mornings and evenings.

Quick shower before bed felt great!

One of the last trips in our pup, full sun, temps in the mid 90's with high humidity. A/C ran so long it iced up then overheated and smoked the circuit breaker. Campground is on a prairie type landscape so no trees to seek refuge. We were sitting under our bunk ends trying to get some relief -lol. No fair weather campers in this family.

X2. Gets to the point of just shutting it off for a while, especially through the night.

We left Southwest Louisiana on July 9th for a cross country trip to Niagara Falls. We watched the weather for a couple of weeks before our departure, seeing lows in the upper 50's and lower 60's and highs just in the upper 70's and low 80's. We decided to bring jackets and sweats just in case the change from heat indexes of 107 during the day and lows of 85 were a shock to our systems. Little did we know that we were heading into a huge heatwave that was engulfing the nation except for the Pacific Northwest!
We battled temps of 96-99 with HI up to 112 for the entire trip! Our only relief was in Punxsutawney, PA where we were finally able to build a fire ONE NIGHT! Seems everywhere we were going was experiencing a drought. We did not get relief until we returned to Louisiana. Seems it had been raining just about everyday while we were gone, so the cloud cover and showers kept the oppressive heat at bay!
I just want to add that we purchased a Cajun Kooling portable evaporative air cooler. We set that up at each of our stops, filled it up with water, and enjoyed outdoor a/c the Cajun way! Talk about draw a lot of attention from our fellow campers! They came up to ask what it was and immediately felt the difference in temperature. One woman in Niagara Falls even told us that she told her husband, "Well, they have Louisiana tags, so they must know what to do in this heat to stay cool." Best "camping extra" we could have ever purchase, IMHO!Click image for larger version

Neat idea thanks for sharing, I don't mind being cold but I hate being hot
