When is the right time to dewinterize

Hello everyone!! This is our first year owning a TT and were wondering when others are comfortable with dewinterizing in the Midwest. We are from Indianapolis

I'm in the St. Louis area and have done it already. My plan is to watch the long range forecast for a month out. When I see the average lows in the forties, I pull the trigger. I do not keep water in the tanks so if it drops down to freezing for a day or two, I'm not worried.

What some people do as well if unexpected cold weather arrives after you have dewinterized is blow the lines out with air. Other option is to simply run heat at a low setting if you get 1 or 2 cold nights. Running heat won't help with your outside shower if you have one, but if its just a few degrees below freezing for a short time in the morning you should be fine. Much like fall camping.

What are the temps like at night. What you might consider doing if the temps don't get down below freezing for hours at night is to remove open your low point drains and faucets and just drain on the ground. If your freezing for less than 1-1/2 hours you should be fine

Here in central Wisconsin we still get below freezing all night, Last night it was in the 20's all nite. This evening it's 37 now dropping to upper 20's lower 30's.

I know it's hard because it's a new trailer but be patient. Anything below freezing for an extended time will cause you grief that you don't need. Put the slides out and have a coffee in it every evening but don't rush the dewinterizing.

When its no longer winter!

You don't need to worry about overnight frost, but any sub-freezing temperatures for any amount of time can cause issues. Camper's aren't well insulated.

I wait until the first weekend in April and start looking at the long range forecast. As soon as I see no sub-freezing temperatures in the forecast, I dewinterize. If any cold nights come up on us unexpectedly, I will blow the lines.

A good couple weeks yet. It was 39F on the way in this am. Dumping the pink will be last on the to do list even though it feels like an early spring

When are you local RV parks opening? This should be a target date.

I can't wait either Neighbor. We are from Cincinnati Ohio and I will de-winterize late April usually. Anytime in April when I take the camper on a trip, I will usually do it. Freezes typically wont get cold enough for long enough to do any damage, but that's just me. If I know of something major coming, I will make sure to at least drain everything out at the low drain points. Campgrounds will open water supplies may 1st.

Thanks everyone!! Our state parks are open and we are going this weekend for a short trip. They have their shower houses open so I'll just wait a little longer.

I am just north of you (Anderson) and I typically do mine around early to mid April depending on the forecast. State parks turn their water on normally April 1. This year I guess they did that a little early due to the warmer weather.

When I tell people this they look at me like I am nuts(I am) Every year we count the times the frogs croak. Here is how it works. When you hear the frogs the first time then they freeze in ( frost) after the freeze they croak again then freeze. Now the good part when they croak the 3rd time that's it no more freeze. It really is true try it. In S. Michigan we had our first croak last week and a freeze. That's one. Lets all count along now.

Happy frogging

Hey, Pipe - Please let us know when the frogs croak the third time, ok? I'm an ex-farm girl who knows that mom nature doesn't lie. Problem is I now live in the city and there are no frogs for many miles and as such, must rely on the kindness of strangers for the real scoop

I'd be afraid my frog would croak and stay dead and then I not be able to get my camper out ??
