X2

Had them on first rig not on second. They're fine the first year... then not so much.

My daughter saw me up sweeping off the slides before I retracted them. A year ago Father's Day, she got me a B&D battery blower. Great thing to bring along. Use it on the patio mats, slides, around the house....etc. great for smaller jobs, beats me getting out the big Stihl gas blower for a quick patio or porch cleaning!

Yes, if .............

I mostly worry about pine cones or eucalyptus nuts or small branches and such. Leaves are not much of an issue. They can be cleaned from inside the rig since they usually slide under the top seal.

If there are trees above or nearby I "sweep" the top of the slides (they are fully exposed, no topper) with a light telescoping pole with an old terry towel tied to it. I do this from the ground. I drag the towel along the top a couple of times. That takes the aforementioned objects off the slide. Quite easily done .. and this is a 36" deep slide!

If I don't think anything has landed on the slide but could be wrong and don't want to do the sweep thing, I have the wife bring it in, stopping a few inches out and pulsing it the last few inches while I watch for it hanging on any object. I would yell at her to stop if it seemed to be hanging on something but that has never happened.

We always check the top of our rv for anything that may be on the awning or slideout on the top or track. Just use a broom to sweep objects off,

This was not much of a concern on our last camper - only 1 superslide - only about 18" deep - AND it was close to the ground. Now the New Flagstaff has 3 slides and two awnings and it takes at least an 8' ladder to try and reach the tops.

Are we over thinking the cleaning thing?

And if IT IS something everyone does - please give us some tips of what you use to do the job.

THANKS SO MUCH!
Debbie
Unless everything is wet, we don't. The slide toppers do a good job keeping stuff off the top of the slides and leaves drop off the awnings as you pull them in.

We have 2 slides on our 2008 FR Surveyor and they do not have slide toppers. The previous owner warned us that he had had a small limb puncture the rubber roof on the top of the slide and advised that I sweep them off before retracting. I have followed his advice for the past 2 years that we have owned the fiver. It's really not problem if you have a rear ladder to access the roof.

The slide toppers are designed to drop all the debris to the ground when you close the slide. The only problem is when the topper is wet or you have pine nettles with pine sap at the ends, you need to sweep those suckers off before closing it. Those just laugh at a leaf blower.

We’re currently camping at campground with tall pine trees that are dropping a lot of needles. We’ve been here since Monday and we’re heading home tomorrow morning so I’ll have one of the boys go up on the roof to sweep it and the slide topper off. There doesn’t seem to be much sap on the needles but they can get lodged into places that they won’t fall off on their own. It’s a preventative measure and he loves climbing up there. I’d sweep it myself if he wasn’t with us this trip.
