I agree with all the earlier posts. In this area a lot of them are used as hunting camps, but I am also amazed by the number of old RV's still on the road. If they are garaged and well maintained, they are often sold and resold numerous times especially to newbies who want a cheaper unit to see if camping is really for them or who can't afford or don't want the newest model.

We are on our 9th camper and 5 of the 9 were purchased used. I like to buy used when possible as I have had more problems with the units purchased new than used.

In 1979 we purchased a used Allegro motor home which was a 78 or 79 model. After a few years we sold it, but I still occasionally see those old brown and white Allegros going down the road and when I see them I wonder if one of those used to be ours.

For another example: in 2000 we bought a 1995 5th wheel. We used it a few years and then sold it to a friend. He enjoyed it for a number of years until he was killed in a car wreck. The estate sold it to another friend who also used it for a number of years. About 2 years ago we looked at it and almost rebought it as it was still in excellent shape. This friend sold it to another person, so it has now gone through 5 different owners and is still looking good after 20 years. Just take care of them and they can last for many years.

There is an RV lot here where I live that deals in nothing but used and/or repo'd TT and 5ers. Probably 50 or so units on the lot at any given time. Nothing older than a 2010, so they're pretty nice, just used.

Not necessarily, older trailers have better materials and made well, though heavier but I assume the parts are much more desired than today's parts that the manufacturers shove into our trailers.

Oh God, no. If you try to take anything smaller than 30 foot or so into party cove, you are asking for trouble. The channel going in is so rough, you will get swamped. That thing wouldn't last a minute.

We 'inherited" this poor little camper when we bought our lake lot. I have no idea what year/make/model it was. The poor thing had a 1988 license plate on it and every seam on the roof had been open for years. The water damage was pretty much overwhelming. It would have been nice to fix up, but it was just not worth saving.

We accidentally caught it on fire while burning brush. An ember somehow got into one of the open seams on the roof and caught the insulation on fire. We tried 3 or 4 times to put it out, but it kept flaring back up.

We finally had to get out the sawzalls and filet the poor thing right there on the spot.

We wound up burning everything but the siding over the course of 2 days. We donated the siding to the lake beautification club for recycling. I tell you what, the couch cushions were SCARY when they burnt. Throw one on the fire, and within about 5 seconds there would be a whoomph and the whole cushion would be totally in flames giving off thick, black, oily smoke.

We kept the chassis for use later on, but it was stolen off our lot about a year ago.

A few years ago, I took jetski's in. It lived up to its name, what a zoo. It was tight for my ski's, I can't imagine trying to maneuver those big boats in that mess.

It's correct that there are people looking at older but good looking units that aren't sure if RV'ing is gonna be their thing. We remodeled a '99 DayBreak, painted the blistering clearcoat, upgraded electronics...it's much better than it was in many ways. All we need to do is find someone like us jus' starting out. We're sentimental types and we're gonna miss her after dragging her 27k miles in three years. We'll list her after winter.
