My experience, IMHO, is that the black tank flush system is nice, but, if you really want to be sure it is clean, I would use a black tank cleaning wand on the end of a garden hose. It doesn't have to be done often but, again IMHO, it is the surest way of removing stray particles off the black tank level sensors.

On a factory mounted flush system, has anyone seen the business end to know the direction in which the water is sprayed?

Bruce, I think I've got a B&B system on my 2015 Forester. Both of my water inlets (city and black tank flush) have B&B inlets on them. I found this info about B&B: Check out Page 11.
