I use a double mantle portable propane bottle lantern. Love it--sturdy carrying case while in transit and I carry the little bottles anyway for my stove/grill combo. Not a fan of the white fuel so these work great for us.

Sure looks like one of the venerable 220-series, there.

That it is, Pop. Its a model 220F that my dad handed down to me in the early '90's. He had bought it in the early 70's. Amazing they last as long as they do.

Our propane Coleman has its own little explosion every time you light it. Scares the bejesus out of me! We don't use it a lot. Only when we don't have an electric site.

All though I still have a couple of the liquid fueled Coleman lanterns, I pretty much use the propane models all the time now. Same with the stove. To me the propane is just less of a hassel. I have one of the LED lanterns that I use ocasionally.

White gas lantern here.
Like several have already said, as long as they're out of reach of curious little hands I prefer them over LED's. When we were strictly tent camping we had a battery lantern for inside the tent.
But as an avid collector/restorer of anything Coleman I'm kinda biased. I have quite a few to choose from (*cough 42 cough*) whenever we go camping.
My favorite take along is my restored 1920's Coleman Air O Lantern, but you can't beat the 220's for simple dependability.

Wow, there seems to be a forum for everything.
I bought my Coleman gas lantern back in the early 70s, so that puppy is about 40 years old.....about the same age as my Coleman Stove.

I use the single mantle propane Coleman lantern pretty often. I can't remember how many years I have had it. It's very bright and dependable. Before that, I used the double mantle Coleman fuel or white gas unit.

That's when I got my lantern and stove and they still go on every camping trip.
