Who still uses a Coleman Propane Lantern?

Debating on investing in a LED lantern...some of the ones I have seen go for $50 or more. For the sheer safety factor around kids and the hastle of lighting it it might be worth it.

Anyone still use the old style lantern? For those of you who upgraded was it worth it?

I still have an old double mantle gas lantern, and also a propane lantern. They both work great.

I also still have/use/love my old liquid fuel mantle lantern. No reason to change. And I believe if the kids choose to ignore the warnings we give them when something is hot or dangerous, they'll learn the hard way and only do it once.

I have the propane style and I do love it but having the led and not having to carry around little bottle might be ok to. I have a stove and the little refill adapter so it's not to big a deal for me.

It's hard to beat the light the gas lantern produces, especially for what they cost. As previously mentioned, kids need to learn things the hard way. Most state parks in GA have lantern holders in each campsite so it's usually not a big deal for us.

Don't know of anyone with permanent scars from using the old style. I think kids now days are just as smart as we were.

Convenience, yes quite a bit more convenient, but the old ones killed bugs too!

We have the LED lantern and I have to say it is very convenient, it was a gift from my admin so I don't know what it cost. Sounds like it was a nicer gift than I realized. We also carry the older style Coleman Single mantel liquid fuel model from our back packing and canoeing days. To me is it still what I like to hear at nights hanging on a pole making that all so familiar hiss. The mantels are smaller than the others and a few years ago I think I purchased 2 doz of them, not sure if they are still available and what we will do when we go through that supply. We also have the one of the F1 propane lantern that works great but I have never felt like it put out as much light, it is just to small for RV camping. You see liquid and propane lantern a lot in thrift stores and they are not much problem to clean up and rework. Good luck.

Still carry it, but rarely use it. It always seems to be on th lsit of "unused stuff to put in the house or garage", but I can never seem to bring myself to that....

As an added bonus when dry camping in cold weather, the gas lantern will help heat up the camper......with a couple of windows cracked, of course.

But.....I always start that puppy outside.....it has been known to throw a flame up through the top before the mantle starts catching all of the gas.

We have both propane and led. I find myself using led for the convenience of instant light and I can turn my kids loose inside the trailer without me and not worry. We use the propane outside for late dinners and anytime it will be on for a very long time. Our led is the newer cpx Coleman's with a rechargeable battery that can be removed and placed in a lantern to a fan to another lantern. Having multiple choices and easy charging for us was the way to go

We use our propane also. Only problem is when the moths get to the mantle

I like the LED. Not nearly as messy or fragile with the mantle.

Had my Coleman gas lantern for 40 years. Still use and love it.

Used our propane lantern for the first time this past weekend in quite some years. Forgot how hot it gets but it reminded me with this on the forearm.

Another vote for tried-and-true old stuff.

I think the most light comes from the old Coleman "white gas" lanterns, and we used two of mine to provide enough good light to play night games of Washers just last month.

Yes, you need to be careful with them. Alcohol and open gasoline flames is a little like alcohol and guns.

This is what we use. 20 some years old and rebuilt several times. Its hanging from a tree stand so out of reach of my youngest. I love this old Coleman lantern over the LED ones. We have one of those, too, for the picnic table.

I have 3 old coleman gas lanterns. Only take one with us. Bought 2 at a gargae sale for $10.00 and one is from my parents that we used when i was a kid. I like them and if i find any more at yard sales i will buy them to.
