Who winters in Texas

We are off to Mercedes, Texas for two months beginning the middle of January. Was curious as to how many go to South Texas. We got 4" of snow the past few days and it was -15 celcius (that's 5 for you Americans) this morning, so anxious to get to warmer weather.

Doesn't sound like you are too anxious if you are waiting 6-7 weeks to go.

My parents and 2 other couples that they are good friends with use to go to Texas for 2-2.5 months over the winter. They would leave just after January 1 and come back in March whenever the weather looked good. They would go to Houston to visit friends for 3 weeks or so then they would go down the coast, taking 3 weeks or so doing so, then end up near Mission Texas and spend the rest of their time in that area visiting friends.

They did that for 4-5 years, then they went to Arizona for the next 3-4 years with the same group. But since my wife and I had our daughter 3.5 years ago my parents don't like being gone for more than a month. Another couple bought a house in Arizona that they are living in for 6 months of the year, and the final couple just hasn't gone since the others aren't doing it anymore.

Have not been to Mercedes, a little too close to the border for my comfort, but have made quite a few boating trips to Corpus Christi and Port Aransas, TX. CC is a city of about 300K with most anything you would need. Port Aransas is a quaint little village with a lot of charm, good restaurants, nice beaches, boating and fishing activities.

Tried to winter this year at Concan, Tx. Left after 2 weeks. There is so much oilfield and powerline construction going on in most of Texas, which is good for the economy, but bad for us old timer's trying to find a quiet campground to stay in. We had 3 FEMA trailers and 3 regular campers next to us and could not sleep past 5:45 AM because they started their truck's, let them warm up for as long as 15 min. They like to party, way past quiet hours with loud music and loud voices. I do not blame the campground owner's, they need to make a living, but it sure made for a lousy time for us. My advice is if you see any FEMA trailers in the campground, run to another. From now on we are going back to Az. Good luck as South Texas is very nice in the winter.

How can you tell what a FEMA trailer looks like, I'd hate to be caught in that situation!! Thanks

We go to Port Aransas and Love it!!! 15 miles north of Chorpus Christie on Mustang island ( northern tip south Padre) and they let dogs on the beach and in bars!

You can find dogs in many many bars, especiality close to closing time!
