Winter Storage

We are winterizing this weekend and my question is?
If we leave our 5th plugged in will this cause any inverter damage where nothing is running off the 12 volt system.
Any replies greatly appreciated.

It shouldn't but as always there's a "but".

If it's a newer unit with a "float" charge, it will be fine and keep your battery fresh and alive.

If it's an older style one with out a "float" feature, it can/might "boil" your battery dry over the winter.

Plus, there's always the chance of burning it out in a power spike or just from use. They're not cheap units either....

Best option?

take the battery out, unplug the trailer and put the battery on a battery tender/minder/intelligent charger in the heated garage...

In the past 7 years I have left my 5er plugged in 24/7 365 but this fall I invested in two automatic 1.5 amp trickle chargers/maintainers .
they charge batteries till full then they go on standby until the batteries need a charge then turn back on till charged .

So you are saying that this year you unplugged it from the inverter and use only the trickle chargers??

I unplugged the shore power cord from the camper . So now the converter isn't charging my batteries but instead I mounted 2 1.5 amp auto magic trickle chargers and just plug them in .

But as I said before I've left the shore power plugged in 24/7 365 for seven years when not in use.

Never had an issue but was trying something different .
