Winterizing in Louisiana

Spoke with a local dealer who suggested I just turn on the furnace to its lowest setting for days we may get below freezing which is not often. He felt winterizing was overkill for our area. With that said, I will need to get a generator to power the furnace. Does running the furnace require the same amount of watts as the AC? Been looking at getting a generator/inverter but not the big ones since I have no intention of boon docking.

Why do you need a generator? The furnace is propane and 12 volt DC (battery)

Your converter will recharge the battery and all you need for that aspect is to plug into a regular household 120 volt AC outlet via an adapter.

Furnace will take less electric and can run off battery, but you'll need to keep batteries charged and will need to be sure you have enough propane.

After a little practice, pumping the pink stuff in takes less tha 15 minutes + $10 in supplies. Not sure how long it takes to blow out lines instead but I also suspect that's fast with a bit of practice. If it were me, I'd winterize so I wouldn't need to think about getting charged batteries, generator, propane to the camper on cold days. Checking the weather forecast every day seems like overkill to me.

While your dealer may be right, the furnace wont keep the outside shower or low point drains from freezing. They might be ok for a light freeze but they might not. I wouldn't risk it.

Well, you can't actually delete it. I posted a link in my above post that may can help somewhat. It's aimed at the newer RV'er.

I heard ya were getting some snow over near Shreveport earlier.

EDIT: Went outside this morning and we got snow, in November, in Louisiana.

We live in the DFW area so "winterizing" isn't paramount for us either, that said it's 24 degrees outside right now. So we went to plan B on Monday.

Plan A is to use a compressor and blow all of the lines out with this...

https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Brass-C...interizing+kit

We set the regulator on the compressor to 60 psi and take our sweet time. I'm very thorough. We don't use the trailer for a few months in the fall usually so I do it then.

Plan B is a couple of gallons of the pink RV antifreeze when we get a hard freeze. Remember the traps, fridge, black tank flush and outside shower.

Yeah I know a lot of folks will say it's belt and suspenders but I've never had an issue either.

If you have shore power....a couple space heaters. The electric heater we carry for our 36' Cherokee will hold the temp at 70 if we want.
