Winterizing tips.....

Yesterday I winterized out 5th, camping is done till next year.

So this got me to thinking, being up north in Canada freezing lines has always been a concern. Even the most seasoned camper can make a mistake or forget once in awhile.

I thought this would be a good time to point out some of our tips on winterizing for the newbies and possibly a reminder to the well seasoned veterans.

I have two pointers that some of you may or may not know.

The City Water Connection, I myself never use ours but there is water present in the CWC. In order to remove the water, disconnect your hose from the City Water Connection on thetrailer and carefully remove the screen, you will see a plastic tab, push this tab in to release the water untill your plumbing anitfreeze runs through.

Some trailers have an actual shower head for their outside shower so I'm not sure if you can modify it to the following: for those trailers that have a coiled hose like mine with a hose connection run the hot and cold as you normally would until the plumbing antifreeze runs through. Once you know the pink is in the outside shower lines connect the coiled hose to the sani flush line and run it a little bit to replace any water that may still be in the wand. (On a side note, during camping season occasionally I use the hot water on the sani flush to help clean the black tank.)

Another water line that's easily overlooked is the black tank flush line if your rig has one. On mine, I connect a 4' length of hose to the connection, fill the hose with pink stuff, and blow pink stuff into the black tank with my air compressor set at about 30 psig.

Ours has the connection for washer/dry combo, its not installed but still need to make sure you blow out or put anti freeze in those lines.

When you empty your water heater make sure it turn off and/or circuit breaker is pulled. You can burn out your heater element in seconds if turned on empty.

I have seen where people increase tire pressure (be sure to check you rims max pressure) by 25% during storage. I do rotate my tires 90 degrees every other month.

WE put mice traps and bug paper down just in case.

Pull your day blinds but not your night blinds. You can get mold between the two.

We pull our battery and bring it home and put on trickle charger for the winter months.
