Wireless Dog Fence

I was hoping someone that has one in their camper can tell me how well it works, or doesn't work? Looks like they run about $250 on Amazon and seem pretty slick. Our pooch has gotten pretty good at opening the screen door when nobody is looking. Hahaha.

Never owned one but drove garbage truck for 17 years and know of one house that had two dogs we affectionately named Sigfread and Roy because they would allways escape to come play with us. Found out they bull rush the line and deal with the few second shock. We have a wall and counter before our door and a rottwieler puppy so we put up a child gate of course it was originally for the grandson

The dog has to be trained as to where the fence is. One draw back is that if the dog runs too fast they can get over the fence and are gone. The dog will start to get a shock about 3' from the wire. As they get closer the shock will increase. Most dogs when trained can go outside with the fence turned off and they will not approach the area.

Wireless Dog Fence

I should have prefaced my post with the fact that we use an in-ground containment system at home and, in three years, he's never run through it. He knows what that beep means and to avoid it at all costs.
Looking at the wireless system for the camper only.

Wireless Dog Fence

Well... Technically, yes. But it is a radius line around your camper. It says as little as a 5' radius, but I'm looking for some real world experience, not theories. Not sure if there's any other pitfalls to using it
I have the hard wired at home. Never used the wireless.

Buy another hard wire like you have at home plug it into the trailer or parks post and lay the wire around where you want to contain your dog if tripping is a concern use landscape staples to hold it down or an outside carpet.

We have used PetSafe wireless system, and it works great. The system we have, you can make the signal 360 or 180 degrees, plus make the arc larger or smaller, which is nice. I have it mounted about 2 feet inside our basement door on the wall on the side of our front door. I have it set for 180 degrees that way she (our dog) does not go under the 5th wheel, or on the other side to the neighbors, without her getting a warning. Then, depending on where we were, I would step it off and reduce or increase the size of the arc between us and our other neighbor, so there is plenty of clearance. I also put our our flags for the dog to see. We are full-time and have changed from and small lots to larger lots with no problems, because she was used to "seeing" the flags and stops.

Hope this helps and God bless,
Mike

Mike... Which PetSafe model # is that? Sounds like a winner. 180-deg is exactly what I'm looking for.

Our neighbor has one and trained it.But if it sees my dogs out it runs towards them and I can see the dog twitch but doesn't stop him.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, had some medical issues the last few days and was not able to get the model number and the "rest" of info, until today.
Model number is G402-885, the transmitter is a IF-100. Now the next thing is, I was corrected by my wife the engineer who "really" set the wireless fence up. What she did was mount the transmitter about 18" inside our basement (at least I had that right!). Two inches behind where she mounted the transmitter, she built a second "wall" where she installed a piece of metal (cookie sheet thickness plus) about 36" wide. Behind the transmitter from the top of the basement down and under the bottom and to the front of the transmitter to "squelch" the signal to form the 180 degrees on the front side of our 5th wheel. I have to admit, she used her knowledge to re-design the system to make the 180 pattern, and here all the time I thought it was a flip of the switch.
Sorry about my "stupidity! I should have gotten ALL the info before I jumped in and replied to the thread, (guaranteed I will next time!). The old saying, "Once learned, twice burned!" LOL
So I really believe, and from what I've be told from the engineer of our project, you could use any unit and do the same to make it 180 degrees, but I am not going to guarantee anything. You might make contact with alien's from outer space, or have a drone crash into your unit! No telling....

Hope this helps and God bless,
Mike

Think about this...

How would you like to be shocked just for being curious or trying to further explore your world? There are humane ways to effectively deal with the roaming nature of animals while at the same time protecting them from wandering or becoming lost. The electric fence is a cold, technocratic and lazy non-solution.

Dogs learn that they get shocked, but also learn to take it knowing it is brief and run pass it. By the way I know that you know that all dogs have to be on a 6' leash in any CG, State Park or COE property's some are pretty strict about it. Those systems are pretty expensive to boot. Don't get me wrong I'm a dog lover and bring mine all the time.

X2 Many campgrounds will not allow dogs to be off leash period , some do not even allow the little fences/ pens. Do not assume that the electric fence is ok, check the campgrounds you go to first.... I would bet many do not allow them.
Several web sites I have seen state that if you do not follow their pet rules you will need to kennel your pets at your expense or leave.............. some are even imposing fines of $75-$100.

We always take our two dogs & sometimes 3. But I feel an invisible fence is a bad idea. Seen to many dogs escape & end up lost or worse. Just my 2 cents.

I have 1 mean ass dog and took it camping 1 time and somebody dog was loose running around and came up to my dog.Luckily nothing happened due to mine being on a leash to my hand.

Wow... This thread sure did take a turn. We're all up-to-date on what's humane and campground rules, but thank you for the reminders. A thank you to all the non-judgmental posts as well. It will help us in determining what's best for our family.

You asked how it works and the simple answer is is does not as I do not know of any campground that we stay at that it would be allowed. Maybe some would. But some will not even allow the outdoor fences/ pins. No judgement here just answering how it works. Many campers would call animal control or the host, or owner if there was a loose dog on a camp site.

Just giving a non judgemental opinion the experience of 30 years of camping mostly with dogs.

Not suggesting anything but the the campground rules are getting stricter as people continue to push the envelope & try to bend the rules.
