Would you do it?

The aluminum front cap of my TT has dozens of dime sized paint chips missing. Since it is aluminum it’s cosmetic only, but it does look quite bad for being relatively new.

The dealer got approval from FR to replace the entire front cap (!!!) but now I’m a bit concerned that the process of tearing off the corner stripping, separating the front seam from the roof, removing the running lights, etc. will introduce a greater chance of water intrusion or other functional problems just to fix a cosmetic one.

Would you do it?

For me it would probably depend on who is doing the work and how they stand behind it.

Two ways to look at it, either they, as you say, make it worse or they do better than the manufacturer rushing these things out.
