Ok. I am old and fat... People use "un-serviced" campgrounds in the summer? The temps here are 95+ from May sometime till end of September....fluctuates here and there...humidity is VERY high here. Friend of mine says it's the b-hole of the USA...we only have 6-8 weeks of good weather. Too hot then too cold.

Here is the big problem, first a TT in not insulated like a home or have an A/C that can bring down the temps for hours. As soon as your interior's heat up like sofa's, beds and any other furniture heats up it take 2 to 3 times as long to bring them down from the heat gain. Talk about GREEN it is better to have a unit cycle at 78 then try and bring down a unit from that heat gain. So really it's not green to shut it off. You will use more electric to try and bring it down then having it cycle. You can't compare a house with 5 tons of A/C to a trailer barely insulated and only a 15,000 btu unit compared to a 60,000 BTU unit at home. Your pulling 14 amps of 110v compared to 18 amps at 220 volts. Tell me which is more greener? If people are worried about being Green you would not own a MH with 7 mpg or a 5th wheel with 11 mpg. You can only take green so far.

Oh you don't need A/C just turn it off when you get back just open the Windows and let the breeze blow through. LOL Take a cool bath or stay in the river cooling off, you'll be fine. What's a little sweat, drink plenty of water fall temps are on the way and should be here by November. LOL
if your already paying for the shore power then use it. If you want to boondock without a/c then why pay for a camp site leave the shore power for us that like the a/c. We didn't bring our house on wheels to luxury camp without a/c. LOL my tent camping days have long since past.

Yes, leave it on, but turn the fan to high, don't leave it on automatic. The fan will run continuously, but the compressor will go on and off as needed. Your A/C will work much better and have less chance of icing up. In the evening, when the temp and humidity drops, turn the fan back to auto.

I certainly hope you will be using shore power. Running your generator for 8 hours in a park wouldn't be very neighborly. I know one lady who did because she didn't want to pay the additional electric. The neighbors and park owner were waiting for her. I'm not sure I would want my generator running for 8 straight hours. Nor am I sure I would trust the lives of our dog and cat to it.

We full-time with a small dog and a cat. We have been in a number of private campgrounds where the electric hasn't been upgraded to keep pace with the increasing loads modern and larger RVs put on these systems. We have Progressive electrical monitoring and protection. A few times the original voltage in a couple of parks was marginal to begin with. We have had the breaker at the source and the breaker in the rig blow though we are very careful what we have running at any given time and what the startup surges are.The fault is the load up the line.

If those breakers blow, your pets will die. During extreme heat we never leave the animals for more than 4 hours with the ac on and then we leave 2 portable, low-load fans running. During torrid heatwaves we don't leave them alone at all.

mine stays on most of the summer in the yard since we keep it fully stocked and ready to go. Plus, if we want to go out there to clean, restock, or just tinker, it's not 100+ in there. Set on 85, so doesn't have to work too hard, just don't tell OldCoot

We have a tree farm, hay field and make plenty of oxygen to off set anything we burn. We even own a wildlife management area. We can off set any fossil fuel we use so we do. How many people can say that? Run your a/c I can offset the fossils burnt for a lot of RV folks. Enjoy the cool air.

Just for clarification I'm from Canada and A/C obviously not as great an issue up here. Common sense should prevail and different circumstances warrant different practices.

We were at Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque in early October last year. 2000 site full "campground" with almost all sites no electrical service. I'd guess over a 1000 of those camped had their A/C and generators cycling on & off day and night. Against rules at night but nobody to enforce rules. Watch out for CO poisoning from your camping neighbors too. Only time ever in 4 years CO detector went off. We left the next day.

Also only a handful of porta potties for all to "share"

I don't think that's the CG's business! They just want to keep their electricity bills low, they don't care if you have to sit in an oven for an hour before the camper cools off.

RCE we are going to balloon festival this year. Did you need air conditioning when you were there...I was told that I needed to pack warmer clothes because of elevation and being in October . I live in northern California and by then I will have had more than enough time in the heat.

Actually we thought the temperature was quite pleasant but lots were using their A/C during the day. Harder to tell at night due to all the generator noise. Definitely t shirt & shorts during the day was our experience.
