XLR Toyhauler PDI

I just got the phone call that my new XLR Thunderbolt will be ready for me to pick it up. I'm purchasing from RV Wholesalers in OH, so it's about an 8hr drive for me (~470 miles).

Here's my question/dilemma - is it worth my time to drive up there to do the PDI in person or should I just have the camper delivered to my house? I'm going to have to rent a truck to go pick it up so I have that cost too.

Has anyone had there's delivered and regretted it because they found a lot of things wrong? I'm assuming it would be just as easy to get a mobile guy to fix things locally, but I also miss out on making sure everything is right before completing the sale.

Any input is appreciated?

Would you buy a house over the phone without looking at it? This is your house on wheels. I think i answered your question. You'll never regret going there for pdi. You will regret having it delivered and finding something major wrong.

Agreed! Go up and let the walk you through everything. If there's a problem it will be less of a headache.

X3. If there is anything that fixing/tweeking it's better to find out before you sign any papers. I know it's alot of miles but doing your PDI there will prevent alot of potential headaches.

RVW delivered my Roo for far less than it would have cost me to hitch up the Big Unit and go get it myself.

I did the PDI in my driveway. Found one (what I thought) was a major issue. Seat back on couch was broken. Delivery driver noted on paperwork, then proceeded to look into the issue. Turns out the seat back is removable, and it was not inserted far enough to be snapped in place. He seated it fully, and wanted to know if I wanted to proceed with getting a new one. I said no, but he left notes on the paperwork to show that it was a pre-delivery issue in case I changed my mind. I apologized to the man for being extremely anal about checking out everything, and he was really cool and insisted that I take my time, and look everything over to my satisfaction. We sat at my dinette table and drank coffee while we went thru all the paperwork.

I would most certainly buy another RV over the phone. The savings and convenience was well worth the minor worry about how it was gonna be handled if it was not 100% ok.

on edit: One caveat to the delivery is that you can only 'refuse' delivery if there is damage to the outside, like if the driver clipped a corner, or rubbed up against something. Other than that, you will forfeit your delivery fee if you refuse delivery because the microwave don't work. Again, with me, not an issue as long as everything is documented for warranty replacement.

I went ahead and scheduled the pdi for next Saturday. As for the rental, there is a regional rental agency and they agreed to put fifth wheel in their 2014 f-350 dually. I'm stuck in a lease right now and may store rv at beach for first year if I can't get out of it.

thats cool!! that they are gonna set you up to rent a dually 350 to haul her back....cant imagine thats cheap, but cool that you can get a rental to tow.....none of the major rental places around here would offer that, let alone condone you using their rental to tow!
