Yamaha 2400

Just ordered a Yamaha 2400I Inverter genterator. I may need to invest in a hard start kit for my A/C.....Any one have any info they want to relay on this unit. Seems like a slam dunk vs 2 honda 2000's if it will run the A/C. Its going to be a great season!!!!

Check out these threads, from the other forum.
RV.Net Open Roads Forum: Timing Module Helps Kipor Start A/C
http://www.rv.net/cforum/index.cfm/f...d/23866679.cfm

It's an old thread, but I made this mod a couple of years ago, and my Yamaha 2400 now runs my A/C fine. The "delay" that this mod creates is between the time that the compressor starts (immediately), and when the fan starts (5-seconds later). This way the compressor is up-to-speed, and the draw reduced before the fan attempts to start.

As I recall, it was less than $30 of parts when I did it, although I did have a bit of a search to find the delay timer.

Hope that this helps.

ryand, why don't you try the Yamaha before you go to the trouble with the hard start kit ??? My Yami starts the AC just fine with a little power management with other appliances. I do get the AC fan up and running 1st on low speed, which I understand gets the capacity charged before starting the AC.

I will also make sure the fridge is on gas only, and charge the batteries some 1st, to take a little load off of the converter. I have never had a problem starting the using the AC at up to 3500' elevation using these precautions.

Thanks for the suggestions...I will post a review possibly a video link about the unit after I get it all gassed up. Lets see how it handles the AC with no modification.

if it's a newer 13.5 a/c, it should run it fine.

my '07 Dometic 13.5 a/c can run on my Honda 2000.

The 2400 ran my 13.5 just fine. Since I bought the trailer used I never knew if the previous owner had installed one.

I have dual Hondas now, but that was because the current trailer's 15K absolutely would not run on the 2400. The dual Hondas did fine.

If money is the object, go with the Yammy. If not, the Hondas are much more flexible.

Good to hear that the Honda 2000 will run a 13.5 a/c. I'll try mine when I get it at the end of the week.

Just an update.....the Yamaha gen showed up on my doorstep today in tip top shape. Ran down to the local watercraft shop and picked up a quart of oil....dumped some gas in and it literally fired up on the first pull. My initial impressions are the following:
1. I have never heard such a quiet internal combustion engine.
2 . Fit and finish are superb.
3. After a lengthy warm up I was able to run mutiple lights, my garage beer box as well as my industrial heat iron that really draws a load.

Very impressed so far and will attempt to run my 13.5 ac with it this weeked.

More to come.

now, i live near sea level and have never actually used it for running the a/c for an extended time. have ran it for an hour to see how it did and it ran it fine.
but again, not on a really hot day and was near sea level.

I have used my 2400 to run my 13.5k AC at 9000'. I do as others have suggested and get the fan running first and make sure all other loads are at a minimum. Works just fine. And as stated before, what a super quiet, reliable, reasonably lightweight generator. It is perfect for my set up.

Ran mine at 6,500' in 100 degree heat and it did fine there too.

Just an update....last weekend we had un real temps here in the midwest for the end of march.....upper 80's. Still running back and forth to the storage lot for various things. Had some things to gather so I threw the Yamaha in the truck. After using the unit in Feb to run the AC in colder temps (50's) just to test it it did have a hard time starting the A/C and overloaded and timed out on the first attempt. OK.....I next made sure to turn everything off that did not need to be on....All the breakers except the AC were off. I started the fan for AC in manual on low and then moved the slider to "Cool". The unit fired right up and began to cool down immediatly. What I learned is that you can not fire up the generator and throw the switch....its just a large enough load to not handle the compressor and fan motor starts.

Glad the generator is working out for you. Power maintenance is the key.

Besides all of the other things mentioned to shut down before starting the AC with a generator, there is 1 more to consider. Many of the Domectic fridges comes with a "climate control" button. It is a heating element between the freezer and fridge doors, to keep down condensate. Make sure that puppy is off. Any little bit helps.
