Kinda Bummed

Spoke to a Forest River engineer in the Blue Ridge/Cardinal division in Ill. and voiced my concern over the pin weight and what our trucks payload is. Wanted to know exactly how they, as a manufacturer, determine the pin weight when it leaves the factory. We would be over our payload...just no way around it. He also says that the Blue Ridge's and Cardinals are meant to be pulled by 1 ton trucks and 3/4 ton is really pushing it although people do it. Well its definitely safety first for us andwe travel up and down high grades and thru mountain passes and canyons so I think this one is out due to weight issues. I really loved it but we don't want to put purselves or anyone else in danger on the road....so our search continues.

Dry pin according to label is 1975#....our trucks payload is 2600#, but you also have to add into that the weight of the hitch, all fluids, people in the truck and cargo. It just doesn't add up even without weighing everything at a weigh station. Steve, the engineer at Forest River, suggested that that dealer pull that fiver to a weigh station as is with nothing in it and see exactly what tht pin weight is on that particular unit...could be less, could be more but I wouldn't think it would make much difference either way at this point.

Good decision - it's not worth your life. I know many people pull too much and never have a problem; but my luck is not that good.
