Hybrid towing fuel mileage
What kind of fuel mileage should I expect when pulling a stampede S-238. Have a 2011 f250 diesel and when not towing I get 20-22 mpg. I just towed this trailer back from Indiana and only averaged 10mpg. Is this about normal, I really anticipated in the 13-15 range. the weather was crappy, high winds and intermittent snow, but I stayed around 60-65 mph

Well the GVWR of your unit is 6500lbs, your question is probably better answered on a ford blog, but I googled it, and it looks like around 10mpg is what most people are getting towing that kind of weight, and the f250 deisel gets alot of complaints on towing fuel millage from what I could tell. The unit you bought is pretty light and easy to tow compared to other RV's of that size. Hope that helps Rob

It's not always the weight but the frontal surface area of your camper.
Wind is also a factor as well as speed!
Colder Temps are also going to play a factor.
Expect a little better when it warms up but not much.

AHH........it was like 10 degrees, i pull a 16 foot trailer that ways twice as much as this HTT when loaded and usually average 12 - 14 mpg depending on my speed. I know the camper needs new tires and hopefully in warmer weather i will see better mpg.
Thanks

Well new tires on the camper and warmer temps did not help. Tried to keep the vehicle at 65 mph maximum and on a short 150 mile trip I averaged 10 mpg....just doesn't make sense to me. I really only anticipated losing 5-6 mpg not 10-13.....

Yeah. The mileage really drops when you start towing a tall TT. It is all about the wind.

Add some kayaks....
When I put 2 kayaks on a rack above my truck, It must have helped with aerodynamics...by 4 MPG on a 180 mile trip...

Hybrid towing fuel mileage
I was towing a 32 Shasta about 6700# and 11'5" high with my Ford F-150 EcoBoost from NJ to VA with some winds and traffic and I was getting 7-9. On the way home with the new Roo 23IKSS which is 5300# maybe I was getting 8-10 and Roo is 9'5" high. I like the EcoBoost because of power and torque it was 14,000 less than a F250/350 diesel and D is more $ so just need better tires and I will be set, also stayed between 50-65mph depending on speed limit

I agree with Turbs.
The 4 major factors affecting mileage, not necessarily in this order, are:
1. Wind resistance (frontal area)
2. Wind conditions (speed and direction)
3. Altitude
4. Air temp.
Of course, your vehicle speed is something you can control. The above factors you can't control.

Adding one more thing that I learned improperly inflated or deflated tires max pressure should be used on RV and TV

All about aero moreso than the weight. If she sticks up in the air like a big box on wheels then it doesn't matter what TV you use...it's gonna suck the petro big time.

Was the 16' trailer a tall trailer like a conventional travel trailer, or something like a flatbed cargo trailer ?? The frontal area makes a huge difference.

The 16 foot trailer I pull is a cargo trailer, wells cargo, angled v front, not quite as tall as the stampede but with a full load I can muster 14-17, if I keep the speed at 65 or below
