Michigan Winter Camping

I have upgraded from a pop up to a Solaire 213X and am interested in winter camping next year. Can anyone educate me on the do's and dnts of this?

Don't,if you feal the need to (Winter) camp in Mi.Do NOT have water in tanks or lines. Other than that (Camp On). Youroo!!

Awesome thanks! I was not aware until this year that some of our state parks are open year round and plow out sites. I am on a mission to hit all of our state parks and love the idea of viewing some in the winter.

It depends on what part of Michigan your talking about. South by Detroit? North by Houghton, load your snow blower in your toyhauler.

LOL see us trolls always think of Houghton as in the lake. If we mean the REAL HOUGHTON we add Michigan to the end. Im saving Houghton, Michigan for this summer. Im not your typical blonde lol

This winter you need the snowblower even to the south. This Jan we've had >96 cms of snowfall. I used to not mind winter.... Now I hate it.

Most of the Michiganers who winter camp do it in Florida.

really thinking of winter camping in that trailer, you will use a bottle of propane in 2 days, dont think soft sided campers insulate very good, carrying water everyday would also suck. we live in the middle of the state and their is no way I would want to camp this winter, never knew a few SP were open year round

North of Houghton/Hancock we have 230 inches of snow so far. Most of the state parks in the Upper Penisula don't open till May 1st. I was surprised to see some of them open. My TT gets put into storage Nov. 1 and get it out mid April unless I'm planning to head far south for the winter. TOO much winter here!

Camping in Florida Since Dec 6 th... Loving it...Not sure when... We will be going back to our place in Michigan ??

We're both still working but by taking advantage of our flex schedules we mostly can do 3-4 day weekends and mostly they are in Michigan State Parks.
An exception this year and last is the FROG Rally in Goshen , IN for 6 nights. Over all we try to do 40-50 nights per year.

By the way, we especially like fall camping at Sleepy Hollow SP which is pretty close to you. We made frequent use of that CG when the kids were at State.

We've pretty much figured out that the best we can comfortably do is start the last weekend in Mar and finish up the first weekend in Nov. At least that way we can tell people that camp 9 month out of the year in MI. (not bad IMHO)

Given the year we've been having we're probably going to start the first weekend in Apr this year assuming we can get the camper out from behind the snow bank by then.

But I can tell you that we really burn through the gas trying to keep to our early spring-Late fall camping plan.

If you want to brave the other 3 months of the year, I recommend electric blankets and extra space heaters and don't for get the extra extension cords. Space heaters will use up your 30 amps pretty quick.

Hey!! Eat my words! I'm on a road trip today and what did find? A campground open for business in the middle of winter. It's in Iron River, Mi and it has three campers in it. Looked funny that they snow plowed the sites open.

Outdoor adventure in Davison is open rear round but no water at the sites they will bring it to you or you get it yourself which is what most people do if they do not have to do much work

I see (Campers) north of (Newberry,Mi.) during the winter. They are (Dog Sled People-Mushers).They are self contained/with Gens. They take up a (BIG) area,with each dog in a separate area of their own. Don't think I would want to camp beside them? Youroo!!
