I coated it with paint-on bed liner since I could not find it in black; rolled it on. The stuff took quite long to dry, and it will chip off, but its okay.

Don't forget

In all the ideas I didn't see anyone remind people of the need to confirm they are not exceeding the TT, tongue, hitch or ball load limits.

Just because you can fit a bunch of lead(batteries) or steel (tools) up front doesn't always mean it's the best location.

Yup. I missed the ref to TW.

Would be nice to know how much weight the different boxes added to the tongue weight. Especially the one with multiple batteries.

How many of the posters do you thing have bothered to check?

I am pushing the payload of my truck to about the max depending on who comes with me and how i load the trailer. Heavier gear is usually in the back and i have WDH. Towing wise its rated for 8k towing and i am only towing about 5500.

The box i got is only about 50#, 2 batteries, plastic chucks, light grill and a few tools. if i add solar and more batteries they will probably move to my pass through next year.

do need more truck but have to many dang kids lol

So 50# box + two 40# batteries + 15# grill +20# tools + + ?? hasn't pushed your tongue weight above your TV, hitch or ball max rating? Good to know.

Also good to know you have actual scale weight on the TT with all the stuff you and the kids normally carry.

Hitch on truck says 1000# with my wdh, trailer says it's 500 hitch weight. Believe I'm ok, and ya some day I'd like to hit scales. Camper is 4500 stock, added a grand to cover gear and think that's a lot.

How my tongue box affected weights
35# - aluminum box (old rack 30# MOL)
10# - plywood pieces
20# - steel mounting hardware
248# - four GC-2 6 volt (old setup had two GC-2 - 124#)
20# - cables and other stuff (old 8# MOL)
*** Total *** 348# (old set up 157#)
191# difference, 162# of that is now on the tongue. Also note that the new Andersen hitch reduced TW 80# over a Reese Dual-Cam

TW 1260# Before battery box - EMPTY with all mods that has been performed up to that point and without bike.
TW 1005# With 850# bike ONLY (including riding gear) -
TW 1032# as delivered (according to FR)

TW 1180# Before battery box LOADED with bike
TW 1302# After battery box LOADED. Two separate trips, so the load wasn't exactly the same

Added a few eye hooks, no more bagging up the mat and getting sand dirt in the camper....

Tongue storage - toolbox

I added a box to my 190x also. Makes so much sense to have that box for the "dirty" stuff.Click image for larger version
