Couch/table modifications

I have a SP-220 with the couch with pillows and the moveable table. We are somewhat unhappy with this arrangement and are considering removing the entire "couch" and table and putting in an actual couch and table.

Has anyone done any modifications to their unit so that I can get some ideas?

actual couch and table are going to add considerable weight and you'll be hard pressed to find a real couch that fits the space. Not sure of your exact model but my SP-261T the outside storage is actually under the couch so you may also lose some storage as well. I would just stick with what you have, it's a camper, not a luxury hotel. If you're truly unhappy with it, trade it in on a model that fits your needs.

I have the 2109S and am also considering something like this. I have a futon in the house that would fit perfect in the space, and provide a decent bed for 2 people. I looked at some other styles of camper couches available from Camping World, but be prepared to spend some cash. They are not cheap.

I agree that weight could become an issue if you try to put an actual couch in the unit, especially if it is on a slide. But I couldn't see a futon or similar style being much different in weight and think you would be ok.

We decided to keep everything as it is, however, we did have the foam in the seat cushions replaced with "quality foam" and FR agreed to pay part of the cost since the quality of the foam was just not there.

We can't wait for our next trip to see how this is going to work out. Hopefully we will be able to enjoy actually sitting on these cushions, since the grandkids even complained about the original foam.

The couch in our Roo is very comfortable, but the foam in the dinette seats is a bit too soft. I could see us having that foam upgraded by an upholsterer. With the zippered covers it would be an easy, inexpensive upgrade.

I don't how to gauge inexpensive, but the first estimate from an upholstery shop was $550 for the three pieces of foam put into our covers, however, I went online and found a place out of Florida to do it for $249 and that included the shipping charge. I just sent them the covers, they measured and sent me back a bid. The website was really good and had videos explaining the different "weights" of foam so you could pick the one that you wanted. I've never seriously priced replacing the foam. Using that website, I'm guessing I'd be looking at around $40 - $50 each for the 2 seats cushions. And since I'm in Canada it'll probably cost me 50% more. So, you're right, not cheap after all. One of our seat cushions is getting a bit soft but it should be OK for at least a couple more seasons.

Check around for a good crafts store, they usually carry different styles of foam for cushions and can cut it right there. Use an electric knife to shape it and let the knife do the cutting, light pressure. We've found a good selection of foam at one our local stores.

Yes, you can buy the foam at craft stores, or fabric stores. I don't know what stores you all have in Canada, but I've seen the foam here at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabric, etc.

There are many different weights of foam. I had no idea until I started looking into replacing our seat foam. You normally want a heavier weight foam on cushions. The videos on the CushionsXpress website are really helpful to gain a better understand before you buy something that you might not be happy about.
