The plastic strip that connects the canopy to the trailer is splitting in several areas resulting in significant gaps. Anyone know if this would requirereplacement at the dealer or is there a way to repair?

generally, this is a dealer issue but don't know how old yours is.

is the plastic splitting or is the canvas detaching from the plastic strip?

you can contact a canvas repair shop who could get the part from the canvas tent end manufacturer.
as far as i know, all hybrid tent ends should have a manufacturer's tag on the inside.
mine is from T.J. Snuggles in Ind. and i've seen others have General Tent, also in Ind.

FR uses T.J. Snuggles for the Roo and Shamrock hybrids but not sure about the Surveyor ones.

What year is your 261T, I have an 04 and although mine is not splitting anywhere, I was wondering how durable those plastic strips were.

I bought this used this year and didn't notice till I went camping the first time. 3 of the 4 corners at the canvas to camper have ripped. The rip is a split in the vinyl bead that is sewn to the canvas and tucks into the track.

I spoke to Forest River Surveyor Division today and they are familiar with the problem. They have changed the material of the J Lock spine material to something more flexible in cold weather. They will sell a replacement piece of the J lock (15 ft long) for $30.00 but it is up to you to remove the canvas, remove the exisiting Spline material and then sew the new one on. I think I will try a home grown repair first.

I had this same issue happen yesterday when I was setting up my camper at home to air it out and get it ready for a trip this coming weekend. After examining it, I'm thinking of removing the canvas for the trailer with the plastic strip and taking it to an upholster shop and having a heavy duty leather strip attached to replace the plastic strip. It seems that that would hold up much better than any kind of plastic. Any other ideas?
