2016 420AMP wheel skirts

Hello, Anyone else have this issue? Went to my seasonal camp site to check on my 2016 XLR 420AMP to find both of the plastic wheel skits cracked in several places. Starting where they are screwed to the body. Click image for larger version

That type of a crack in plastic/fiberglass typically suggests the screws were over tightened during the manufacturing process. You might consider when the fender skirts are replaced, use a stiff rubber washer between the screw head and the skirt. Assuming the holes in the skirt are slightly larger than the screw, this will allow the plastic/fiberglass to "move" as temperature changes and stop this type of damage from occurring a second time. Good luck.

Even with over tightening, that has to be some cheap **** plastic Im thinking for this to happen? Should be able to take a beating as Im sure these have to get whipped around at 70 mph going down the freeway. These cracks happend while sitting. Good thing Im under waranty for another month!

Yes. I have same issue with my XLR Thunderbolt. Along with many other manufacturers flaws. Like AC wall plates that weren't screwed in properly and literally fell out of the wall.

I have 2 crack in one fender. (Hyperlite 29HFS) One is from the screw to the edge the other between screws. I had my fenders off a few days ago. It looked to me like there should be a gasket or some kind of sealant. I added a strip of butyl sealant and doubled the number of screws and barely tightened them. Since it doesn't count without pictures, here's a coupl'a three. They put a band of Eternabond under there, but it was applied in a hurry and not well.

Oh, it still cracked but I'll live with it. Nothing's perfect.

My TH is way out of warranty... But those that are... X2

I do have a couple of minor cracks, nothing like the OP.

The fender on road side was apparently screwed on off kilter and reattached, doubling holes in the precious - subject to delamination - side wall.

Even with only a few over-tightened, the voices in my head told me to add more screws and add sealant... true, there is less space between screws to expand and contract. And, the sealant will ... well.. seal the screw holes. The design (lip) of the fender looks like it should have a gasket. Also, very obvious (no voices this time) is that the black plastic material used in these is of poor quality and not able to stand up to the heat. The problem is more likely blindly picking the lowest bidder.

I'd likely replace with aluminum fenders if it gets bad. I sure as heck wouldn't replace with the same junk.
