I think on the Thunderbolt there is probably more support due to the added length and width plus Thunderbolts sit higher even with the dove tail. I told a guy one time take a piece of plywood and prop up one side and walk on it and then take the same piece of that and prop up both sides and walk on it and you can understand why one end on the ground doesn't need as much support as both ends up. Most manufactures will do what ever they can do to save cost when building. so I think that is why there is two different doors.

I won't be buying a $2500 ramp. But, I'll post and update when I do the mod.

One more thing on the 29hfs one way you tell if it has the patio system it has more springs on the bottom of the ramp door I am not sure if the 27 hfs is the same way. The rail system doesn't weight that much so it wouldn't justify adding extra springs for that.
I was going to buy extra springs on my 29 hfs before I traded it but the person that I talked with at Lippert said if I didn't have the patio style ramp foot the springs would hold it off the ground it would go down but would lift up.

E, I don't see how my door can have more springs... maybe stiffer springs??

My 29hfs only had 3 springs on the ramp and it could easily hold 3 more I asked the question why it didn't have more springs when I picked it up and they said because it didn't have a patio system.
If your ramp door has springs all the way across you may have a patio ramp door.
